I guess this is a "good problem" to have if there ever was one but I bet the forum can help me get off the fence and decide.

Almost a year ago I purchased a Corvette Grand Sport Collector's Edition and love it. The combo of tension blue leather with black suede & tension blue stitching is not only one of a kind (in my mind) but also absolutely freaking gorgeous!!! I can still stand in my garage and stare at it for hours and I'm not even exaggerating haha. All the attention it gets is still pretty cool but some days is obviously annoying....

Now for my dilemma...... Much like when I first saw my Grand Sport I had an identical reaction to the new
ZR-1, specifically the Sebring Orange Tintcoat package. My local dealer just got a Sebring Orange Tintcoat 2019 Z-06 and is holding it for me to test drive tomorrow and decide if I wanna trade in my Grand Sport for it OR wait for a Sebring Orange Tintcoat
ZR-1 to come in.

I've never driven a Z-06 so for those who have went from a Grand Sport to a Z-06 is it really a noticeable upgrade? How much better will the new ZR-1 really be in comparison, will I even notice the differences from a Z-06 or Grand Sport?

Oh yeah, I forgot but here are pics.

Pretty much every C7 variant, but especially the Z06 and ZR1, have more power than anyone can use frequently anywhere but the track. Coming from a GS you will feel a big difference in acceleration with either variant and the supercharged engines have a very different torque curve that will be very noticeable on takeoff.

But if you like the feeling of burying the throttle and holding it there either of the supercharged variants will get into felony level speed VERY quickly so unless you are good at exercising reasonable restraint you could be one of those drivers who gets an impounded car and a free ride to jail. I have a Z06 and I love it but it is the only car that I have ever owned that intimidates me at times and that is a good thing. It is extremely easy to get one of these high power variants out of shape and the "nannies" are very helpful but they can't completely protect against poor owner choices.

If you plan to seriously track it the ZR1 should be the clear choice now. For street driving either one is akin to using a fragmentation grenade to kill a mouse-It will work well but it is serious overkill. But it is fun overkill

If you have a really good friend with a Z06 he/she may let you drive it but just riding as a passenger will quickly illustrate the difference between the various powerplants.

But I will end with how much fun is it for you to be able to plant the throttle and leave it there because you won't be doing that very often in either of the forced induction variants. I still find that my lowly daily driver 321 HP Cadillac ATS is a lot of fun and it is nearly as much fun to drive on roads like the Tail of the Dragon as the Z06 because you have to work to make it go fast while even if you come out of a corner too slow with the Z06 you don't have any concerns about being able to go in too fast by the next corner because velocity increase is really quick.

Ultimately just like color, coupe vs convertible, wheel style, etc. the only perfect C7 is the one you find to be perfect. When you find the perfect choice for you there won't be any doubts and if you find that you are tying hard to convince yourself and get others to convince you then probably it is time to forget about what is the latest/greatest/fastest/most expensive and choose the one that makes you want to hang out in the garage with it

If you are asking us to spend your money I would say go for the ZR1! It would set you apart from everyone else of the road and man does it have the WOW factor.

Just know both the Z06 and ZR1 have dangerous power in the hands of a novice.

I'm a GSCE owner. Have never driven or been in a Z06 yet alone a ZR1. I intend to keep it that way to avoid temptation. Imas others have stated, it is your money, if you can afford it and it makes you happy go for it. You will lose money on it, but if you have it and that doesn't matter go for it. If you have to get a loan to do it I would say you are crazy.

If you do sell your GSCE, let the new owner know about the registry please :-)

A noticeable upgrade? Besides any other changes, how much additional horsepower do you want or can handle? Obviously they have a lot more.

I test drove a Z06. Bought a GS. Just thought the 650hp was "a little much".

No regrets.

Only you can decide what's best for you.

Scrap the orange idea, get a WGG ZR1 and then buy the parts to swap in a Tension Blue interior. That'd be a work of art.

On the other hand...if you find the attention a GS CE gets annoying at times, might want to consider the attention a bright orange ZR1 would get.

If you are looking for power both the Z06 and ZR1 are upgrades and very noticeable over your GS. If money is not an issue, then the ZR1 should be your choice for now.

Both of your Vettes are Beautiful. I don't know if you fully use the 460hp in your GS's. It's totally up to you if you think 200-300 more hp is what you really need.. For bragging rights I would go ahead and get the ZR1..You are a very lucky person to have such problems..

I guess what I'm trying to say is will the average driver hop in a Z-06 and say oh wow this Z-06 is soooo much faster compared to a Grand Sport OR will the average driver say meh the power & handling isn't noticeable or enough to justify an upgrade??? Then would the power & handling be that noticeable from a Grand Sport or Z-06 up to a ZR-1???

I will admit part of my difficulty in deciding is I have this voice in my head saying oh my God if I don't decide right this second someone might buy that Z-06 out from under me........

Methinks the difference would be like going from a Pious to a Saturn 5.
Other than that, as to which Z?

The difference between the lt1 and the lt4 is very dramatic. The output of the lt4 is incredible. You will notice a huge difference between the two cars. That being said. I’m sure the difference between the z06 and the zr1 may be just as dramatic. If you’ve never owned a supercharged car or dealt with this kind of power I’d suggest getting the z06. The zr1 might be to much of a step up for now. Not to mention your can probably get a much better deal
On a z06 than you co Of a zr1 at the moment.

I test drove both and currently have the LT1 in my 16 Camaro SS. From 2-3k the difference isn't that much since the LT1 has plenty of low end torque. However, mid to high throttle is where the LT4 just flat dominate. On the highway the difference is also very noticeable.

Getting the ZR1 is just bragging rights if you don't track it hard since the Z06 is PLENTY lol.

Tough choice but if you can get the Z06 for a solid deal, go for it.. if not, wait until the mid engine comes out and you can still decide then. Good dilemma you have their in a sense, most people aren't that fortunate

Why not keep the car you got as well as buying a ZR-1?

I'm going to say neither...

Wait till the C8 comes out and then make a call. That way if you want the ZR1 you can have it, Z06 for sure... and that way you dont end up wanting the new offering... just a thought

other wise if you have the cash to waste get the ZR1.

It is certainly noticeable. I rode in a Callaway 757 with Dillon from Harchelroad Motors. Way, way, way too much power! Then I drove a z06, too much power. Not usable on the street. Bought a 17 GS and it is just right. Never had a more perfect car.
