Default Backfire

I have a 2017 Stingray with under 2k miles. When at a stop and with hard excelleration the car backfires at around 65mph. It doesn't do this if the car is in normal driving coditions, just from a stopped condition. I took it to the dealership and did a road test, but I couldn't simulate due to traffic. No check engine light and the sound seems to be coming from the right rear side, but this could just be me. Anyone have an idea of what could be wrong because the dealership will not address it.

Is your car an automatic & does the “backfire” occur when you shift? If so that is normal. In the automatic, when shifting at WOT the computer cuts the spark during the shift, but fuel is still being sent to the cylinders. Once the shift is completed the spark is re-introduced and you get bang. If you have a manual, then I got nothing for you.

This is perfectly normal and awesome, in my book.

The momentary cut-off of fuel is to facilitate faster gear change. I try to do this at least once a day.

AT WOT I get it regular from 1-2 & 2-3! Makes no difference if using paddles or just letting the trans do its own thing.

Where I live we have some nasty, hilly curve type roads and as its alongside a lake we get a bunch of clowns that think its OK to drive at 1/2 of the speed limit. Very few legal passing zones and sometimes you realy got to move to get by those road hogs. If you do it right you can usually get the backfire right along side their car. Go to wake them up somehow!

You can easily do it with the paddles. To do it without the paddles usually you need to get into Performance Shift Mode. A quick blip of the throttle and you should see Performance Shift Mode light up on the DIC and then floor it. Will usually do it on the 1/2 and the 2/3 shift, but I've had it in other gears.

Mine does the pop in all gears up to about 150 mph into 5th. I let up at that point as the end of the strip comes up pretty fast.

What is really fun is to time it so the car does it next to someone you are passing.

I just took my LT1 SS Camaro in to the dealer for same issue. They also could not duplicate the issue but now I see it is normal. You would think it would damage the cats..

What's normal is a snap / crackle / pop sound under auto gear change and deceleration. If you're hearing a loud shotgun noise - then something is up.
