FWIW, for my Grand Sport and last week my wife's new BMW X5 SUV, I bought tire insurance from Discount Tire. It cost $250 for the Grand Sport and $180 for the wife's SUV that has 275/20 front and 315/20 rear tires, almost as wide as the Grand Sport/Z06!
Those sizes are nail magnets and we really have little control over getting a puncture, some of which could be in the outer Tread where a new tire would be needed.
Have also read about the issues with Grand Sport/Z06 wheels breaking/bending. However I believe that is mostly under my control by not hitting potholes, curbs etc. We have few potholes in Eastern SC. I also believe my machined faced aluminum wheels appear to be more durable/stronger than some others observed on the Grand Sport/Z06.
Insurance is a value proposition and the tire only insurance is ~20% the cost of tire/wheel insurance so will take my chances!

Got it out of the box...five years, wheel and windshield insurance. So far just replaced a tire that picked up a screw. But with OEM wheels that are north of 500 a piece and tires in the 250 range...one wheel = 700 plus tax. Seems like a no brainer, if you have to use it once it pays for itself.

We also have the machined faced wheels on our GS. Is there any data that they are more durable than other wheels? Just curious, since we have lots of roads with pot holes, especially on non-major roads in our area which we cannot always avoid.
BTW we bought the SafeRide Gold Plan (60 months)which provides Conditional wheel replacement in case the covered damaged tire cannot hold air after repair or installatiion.(Cost was$1495; but gives peace of mind in case of trouble to include FOB replacement and Towing also).

Have not seen any data. GM no doubt has the info but you’ll never see anything published other than “meets our specs!” Even Tadge can’t get that info past the GM lawyers!
It’s just my observation after looking at some more spindly Z06/GS wheels.
Wife’s new BMW X5 SUV that has similar wheels, but much beefier! Of course they are supporting a heavier vehicle.
