How fast is too fast for the street?
I recently got my 2018 z06 2lz auto with pdr and i use the car for commuting since its my only vehicle. I have been using waze for the last few years and just bought an escort max 360c radar detector which uses the car's wifi to get updates. So far working Waze and the 360c TOGETHER has worked for me every single time. But there are also times when I find Im having too much fun and on a fairly empty road im hitting 90+ in a 45 zone. I guess the question is how fast can or should you go on the street while not being a hazard to everyone else out there even if you dont get a ticket or are worried about law enforcement. I have never street raced anyone.

Your common sense needs to dictate that based on the specific road and weather conditions/vehicle traffic/both existing and potential for pedestrian traffic. Seems 90+ in a 45 zone is excessive to me regardless of conditions.

The correct answer is the posted limits. Speed limits are set based on studies that take into account the area and road conditions ie: heavy populated areas, business, schools and general traffic congestion....Like you I know the areas that I play in and take all that into consideration. My primary play areas is the open roads and yes it is a risk you take no matter where you are. Some times you have to pay to play. I know what my vette can do so I never show off in populated areas.

It depends on the road, your driving skills, common sense and taking into account all the known possibilities. On a wide open country road where you can see forever, no farms, no animals, driveways, etc.is your best opportunity to let it rip without killing yourself or someone else.

I agree with Kevin Jones (post #2). 90 in a 45 is way too fast for a public street.

90 in a 45 is ******* retarded. There is seriously something wrong with your mind if you think that is ok under any circumstances. Nothing about that sort of driving is calculated; its just plain reckless.

That said, I hit redline from time to time in 3rd gear in a ~3/4 mile long road (and occasionally another similar situation on the way to town) between two farm fields, no homes and when there is no traffic (that is most often in our rural area.) The corn and cotton (or now fallow fields) don't care how fast I'm going! Safe, IMO, accept for me. I don't do that with others in the car.
On the Interstate I set the cruise control at ~7mph over the limit! Lots of AH's going >90 mph passing on left and some right using cars to "block a Trooper's radar!" My radar detector goes off from Troopers driving the other way, never an issue at <7 over! I have a Passport Max and love a key feature of marking radar trap areas! I mark those and other areas like school zones (cops use Lasers when school has been out, no kids and the flashing speed limit light, and they, are partially blocked by trees!) There is a 55 mph rural back road to Myrtle Beach close to my home that has one and also a a long section though a small town with few homes but a 35 mph max speed limit. Good money maker! Those are marked on my Passport Max as a reminder!
Bottom line, I try to avoid speeding when there is any traffic or where there are known speed traps. May accelerate for a reason but quickly return. I use cruise control in town to avoid exceeding too much over the 35 and 40 mph limits!

Let's see, 90 in a 45. Is this a Civic forum? I would expect a dumb *** teenager asking a question like this. Post # 3 was spot on. Everyone speeds one time or another. But to ask the question how fast should I go on the street without being a hazard.... Grow up and show some responsibility and COMMON SENSE!

Really its time for you to grow up before you hurt an innocent person.
The shame of this is that you can cross this country east coast to west coast in 26-27 hours (Jacksonville to San diego) if you know what you are doing, and that's probably the sort of thing you are wanting to talk about. Step one is don't drive like a jackass.

Driving 45 mph - when you factor in perception time that you need to stop - the stopping distance is: 196 feet.
At 90 mph - taking into consideration the perception time as well - the stopping distance is : 584 feet.
When you double your speed from 45 to 90 your total stopping distance triples.

I don’t have A radar detector.Virginia.I do 55 in A 45.I will do 80 in A 55 mph zone when passing only.I will race at A traffic light til 10 miles over the speed limit then back off.I have
700 hp I don’t get many takers. With no speed detector I can only do so much. With you doing
90 in A 45 they might impound your car in this area.

How fast?
Most jurisdictions post a speed limit. It is on these squarish white signs on a longish metal post. You may have seen them?
