In 17 years of driving C5 and C7s I cannot remember it ever being returned... though I suspect that it must have been sometime in the distant past.

Yes, I always wave is I see another Corvette and there's enough time to wave.

I've been waving at other vettes since my first one, a 7yr old '64 coupe. If it isn't returned I figure the guy didn't see me or was preoccupied. Better on my serenity than assuming he's an *******. I think the return rate depends on the area. There's a lot of corvettes in my little mountain hometown now so I get way more than I ever did in Phoenix.

Even though my mileage has been limited, I've been a little disappointed on how little visible attention my 2018 has gotten from other drivers, including Vette owners. To date, absolutely nothing.
Twenty years ago, in my C4, I had many people, both men and women, who would stop me and make comments. The same with my C5 a few years later.
Maybe the difference now is that I'm a geezer myself?

As a new and first time Corvette owner, I have noticed something: most of the time, when I am driving my Z06 and a Corvette is coming toward me from the opposite direction, the driver waves at me. I wave back, naturally, and I'm guessing that this is sort of a "we've got the car of our dreams" kind of thing that we are all acknowledging with "the wave."
So, is this a real thing, or am I just imagining it? I qualified my observation by saying "most of the time," because, for example, the other day a Corvette was approaching me, so I waved, but the guy driving did not wave back. Consequently, I guess not all Corvette owners participate in this ritual of ownership.
Are you a part of this "Corvette brotherhood?" Do you wave at other Vettes as you cross paths?
Thoughts?

From the August/September 1969 issue of Corvette News
Ever since Corvette No. 00001 first met Corvette No. 00002 on the road, their drivers saluted each other with waves. Today, unfortunately, this grand and glorious tradition is wavering. WAVE WHEN YOU PASS ANOTHER CORVETTE!
There's one item of standard equipment that comes as a pleasant surprise to every new Corvette owner. It's an instant wave of recognition he or she receives when he meets one of their ilks on the road. The first time it happens, they will be taken by surprise. He immediately thinks: 1. He has been mistaken for Sterling Moss. 2. His lights are on. 3. He has just been given the bird.
Soon, however, the new Vette owner anticipates, indeed even relishes, encountering other Vettes as he drives. During this period, he experiments with his waves, running the gamut from the gaping "yoo hoo" to the ultra cool "two finger flip." He perfects his timing, making sure he affects neither a too-early wave, nor the jaded "oh brother" too-late variety. Determined not to be one upped, he even develops a defense mechanism for non wavers, usually settling on the "Wave"? My hand was just on the way to scratch my head" approach. (This is especially useful when you're not driving your Vette, but you forget, and like a dummy, you wave anyway.)
Indeed, one of the most perplexing problems facing a would-be waver is what to do when driving next to a fellow Vette owner. Passing him going in opposite directions is one thing. Greetings are exchanged, and that's that. But what happens when you pull up next to a guy at a light, wave, nod, smile and then pull up to him at the next light, a block later? Wave again? Nod bashfully? Grin self-consciously? Ignore him? Or take the chicken's way out and turn down the next side street? If you're expecting an answer, you won't find it here. Sad to say, some questions don't have any. SAVE THE WAVE!
Girl-type Corvette drivers also have a unique problem: to wave or not to wave. This miss or misses who borrows her man's Corvette for the first time is immediately faced with this quandary. Should she wave first and look overly friendly, or ignore the wave and look like a snob? Most ladies who drive their own Vettes prefer to suffer the latter rather than take a chance of being misread. For this reason, all girls are excused for occasionally failing to return a well-meaning wave. So are new owners who are still learning the ropes.
There is no excuse, however, for a guy who refuses to return the wave, not out of ignorance, but of arrogance or apathy. While this type of behavior is the exception to the rule, it seems a few owners of newer models refuse to recognize anything older than theirs, while some others simply won't wave, period. Boo on them. These ding-a-lings don't seem to realize that they are helping to squash a tradition that had its beginnings back when most of us were still driving tootsietoys.

I drive a "65 and if I see the other Vette I always wave. It seems that I always get a return wave (or they wave first) if they are C1, C2, C3 or C4 owners. After that the number of returns seems to diminish as the cars get newer until we get to the C7. I honestly can't remember getting a return wave from anyone in a C7. Could be the area I live in because there seems to be a large number of C6s and C7s around so maybe they get tired of waving.

I've had my C6 for about a year and a half now and ALWAYS wave when I see another vette on the road, no matter what generation. I'd have to say it's about an 85% response getting a wave back. Once in awhile I get a grumpy old man that does not wave back.

A neighbor had a 55 TBird from 58 to about 63 and I know back then when a bird saw another bird waves were exchanged.

See, all Wrangler style Jeeps JL, JK, TJ, LJ, CJ/5/7, and ****** wave at each other. Usually the newer Jeep initiates the wave. Believe me or not there is a Jeep wave scoring system in place.

I was in a parking garage and a nice C6 was coming in as I was exiting and I didn't notice his wave. My wife asked me why I didn't wave back and I told her I didn't notice his wave. She said he rolled down his window and everything. I felt guilty all the way home and now make it a point to wave at every single vette I see no matter what.

Corvette wave
I wave like I am lost at sea. About 55 years ago as a young boy a Canadian cousin visited with a VW bug. There were not many around back then and were very spartan. When he saw another one a lot of times they would stop and hug like long lost brothers at the least they would wave and beep and flash lights like crazy. Least we can do is wave, I am very disappointed when I don’t get one in return. I would say about 60 percent return with a wave or flash of lights. I keep my eyes peeled for cops and corvettes.
