i purchased a GS from Kerbeck a few weeks ago. Nice car. Kerbeck put NJ temp plates and I drove it back to Texas where I live. But I did not receive the plates from them. So I called last Thursday and they said I needed a VIN inspection done in TX. That was the first it was ever mentioned to me. Ok, I get it done Thursday and over nighted it back and they received it last Friday. They said my paper work would be overnighted to the TX DMV on Friday and that I should go to the DMV Tuesday (day my temp plates expire) and get an extension. So I went there on Tuesday and they did not have any paper work from Kerbeck. I called Kerbeck and they said that they would mail a TX temp plate to me overnight and let me have the tracking number. Well today is Wednesday, and I have no tracking number and no plates and the ones on the car are expired. I called Kerbeck and the salesman is out, the corvette manager can’t be found and the GM does not answer the page. This sucks honestly. This has been handled in a very incompetent way. And I was planning to drive the car to CA this Saturday which I cannot do without valid plates. Just terrible service.
I do "feel" your pain and you are right that it shouldn't be like you experienced, but as noted with weather (that has affected some mail/shipping I've done recently from the Northeast) and who knows what is most likely involved.
I suspect a lot of people here can vouch that your experience is far out to the usual with Kerbeck. I know I can, personally. All the best and I'm glad it got worked out!
Strange. I bought mine from MacMulkin and had it delivered to Texas. It arrived with NH 20day temp tags.
Just be sure to be aware.....you now have to get a Texas inspection to get your registration done. And it is a Safety ONLY inspection. Be sure the place you take it is aware of this. It is an option on their state inspection machine. Cars 2 years old or less in Texas only require a safety inpsection and your car might have trouble passing the emissions test. Mine failed 3 times over 200miles because all the systems had not set. You do not need an emissions test. My local shops and even the local dealer were not aware of this. I went down this road a couple weeks ago.
I have bought half a dozen cars out of state. Never let the dealers handle the tags. Just get a drive out temp tag @nd head home. Register it yourself when you get there.
I bought my car back in October from MacMulkin in New Hampshire. It had a temp tag on it that was good for 20 days. When I picked up my car they gave me all the necessary paperwork that day to take back home to New Jersey DMV. I went to DMV within the first week and got my permanent plates and registration which is good for 4 years. The hardest thing about the entire thing was waiting in line at the DMV and that was only about 25 minutes and I was out the door. Then I drove to an inspection station and pulled into the office lot and they came out and put my new car inspection sticker on the car which is good for 5 years, exp. 10/23.
