How to Replace a C7 Corvette Water Pump (Video)
Over the weekend, I picked up a faint new engine noise with the motor at idle; over the next 100 miles or so it got a little louder, so I popped the hood this morning to check it out. The noise was even louder, sounded like a ball bearing going bad so after I shut it down, I started to check for play in the drive pulleys. Sure enough, the water pump had close to 1/4" of side play....not good.
Next I check the Forum for others who have experienced the same problem; I found one member who said the dealer wanted $500 to change it out ($250 was parts), needless to say, that was like taking a hand full of little blue pills! I got real motivated at getting the job done with my own two hands! As it turned out, it was like…. WAM-BAM, Thank ya Ma’am, and I was done. It took about 15 minutes to remove all the plastic & rubber parts from of the TB forward and then a couple minutes to figure out how to collapse the hydraulic belt tensioner (to get the drive belt out of the way). After that, drain the radiator, remove the 6 bolts (10MM socket) from around the water pump and BINGO, the biggest part of the job was in my hand.
I tried looking for a U-Tube video on how to remove the water pump on a C7 and found none….so after finding how easy the job was, I thought I would make one for the next Shade Tree mechanic.

Awesome job. Torque specs for the pump bolts might be a nice addition to your video. I've learned to use my Torque wrenches a lot more lately.
Just a thought.

Great job OP, thanks for sharing with us. We need more DIY videos like this in our community.
How many miles did you have when it went bad? I wonder what is the average lifespan for these in our cars. BTW, did Chevy not want to cover it under warranty?
