Default Corvette therapy...

This isn't my first rodeo, but a momentary lapse of focus led to me driving too fast out of the garage and bam I landed fairly hard on the left corner of the car. Luckily limited to no damage sustained. Just a scrape underneath. I've scraped the bottom of my cars before, but this time felt different.

I've done nothing but baby this car and it's a painful reminder every time I see it. The car drives fine, I haven't found any fault with it since it's happened. I'm just wondering if I should take it to the dealership and have them have a look at it, get an alignment or just count myself lucky?

I would say don't worry about it. I mean how fast is "too fast" ? A full 10mph ? ..12 ? I seriously doubt you did any harm to the car.

I wouldn't worry unless there's an indication something's wrong.

It’s pretty solid under there... If it’s not leaking any fluids, rattling, and the steering is tracking fine, then you should be OK.

You said the hit felt different this time, so I would say go get it checked out. I would closely examine underneath the left side where it hit for any damage/cracking to the rocker panel and front fender. You may have bent something underneath as well. If it were my car, that is what I would do.

Don't know if this is the right place for this but I wanted Corvette people to know what happened the past week. I wanted to buy and order a new 2019 Corvette from my favorite Chevy dealer. (I've ordered my last 2 Corvettes from them) We couldn't agree on a price. As a matter of fact they tried very hard to over charge me. I was really disappointed in their offer. I went to another Chevy dealership today and there offer was thousands of dollars cheaper. I ordered the 2019 Corvette from them. In other words shop around for a better price.

The very next day after I brought my baby home, I went to back out of my garage and the infotainment screen started flickering so that I lost my backup camera. Managed to smash the passenger side front fender against the metal garage track. I think it is the new car jinx.

Sounds like a really painful experience!!! I'd have a hard time dealing with that. I mean, what do you tell your friends?!

Reminder to not rely on ANY of the modern aids our cars provide. All this tech helps, but I drive like I don't have any of it, and let it augment my old school driving skills and techniques.
And OP if you need peace of mind, have it checked out.

Good to know, but you might want to start your own thread on this topic.

Just sayin’...

If there there is any real damage, it would likely be cosmetic.
Modern cars are built to withstand low-speed bangs without sustaining structural damage.

My garage space is very narrow with only a couple of inches on either side of the mirrors for clearance. It is a problem driving in and out and I knew I must be very careful.

My wife can't get in the passenger side until the car is out of the garage so she saw the whole thing. I remember her look of horror. But I said to her that "its just a car and it can be fixed" and I could see the relief on her face. I now back out by using the clearance between the mirrors and the garage track to line the car up properly. It sure would be nice if Corvettes came with electric retractable mirrors!

I usually expect this sort of stuff to happen with a new car as in my experience it gets hit by someone or something in the first 6 months . But even I wasn't prepared to have its virginity lost within 24 hours

My successful strategy is that if I got it into my very tight garage successfully then just back straight out with no steering corrections and all is well.

That is essentially what I do. But I use the mirror to garage track clearance as the check to make sure it stays straight. Any deviation from straight means potential damage. Its the most stressful part of my drive.

I’ll give you another course of action. Find someone with another C7 Corvette that is as similar as possible to yours. Maybe a local Corvette club. Ask the owner to drive you on the road and possibly let you drive it and see if it drives the same. If it also acts your car, then maybe you are expecting a much different feel than the Corvette gives. If their car drives better, then at least you know something is wrong with your car and you need to have the car checked out by a mechanic that knows Corvettes if the tires are ok and you get a proper alignment. I know what you mean. When I back out, I always forget the camera. The top is always down, so, it is easier to look behind me than to use the screen.

The exception is the front camera. I always use that when I am pulling into a parking space. I do not like my car associating with parking bumpers!

How you psychologically handle car imperfections, how **** are you? If you're so inclined then it might bother you enough

Man oh man, those pesky garage door tracks . They got me too on the passenger side mirror and left a big ole scratch / stripe in my Sebring Orange mirror. So, a little cut jell, and polish and no more scratch mark. Lucky Me!

OP, take it for spirited drive and if the handling is good, and it tracks straight, I wouldn't worry.
Good Luck!
