Default Rim protector

I have several threads on the forum using these various products to protect your rims and to give them that Red Line look. Well I am now upto Version 3 and I think these are the best.

Version 1 - RimBlades
I had them on my Arctic White/Black Wheels Stingray and while driving from Tucson to Lake Tahoe in 110+ degree heat the RimBlade let go. It didn't let go from the rim, the glue failed that attached it to the inside of the RimBlade. So this wasn't a bad installation, its a bad product.

Version 2 - RimRingz
Then I switched to RimRingz, the red band is much wider than I would have liked and uses little tabs that hold them in place. However if you hit a pothole the tire flexes but the Ring doesn't and the tab pull away from the tire leaving a space. I will say that if you curb a wheel the ring with protect the rim, but the ring will need to be replaced.

Version 3 - RimPro-Tec
These look great and the appearance it the best. They look almost the C7R red lines that are cut into the wheel except they are glued on (double stick tape) to the edge of the rim and will provide some rim protection. According to the manufacturer the heat won't be a problem since they tested it in the Australian Desert. The double stick isn't the usual Gray 3M (with the red carrier) it's some other kind. You can see from the photo that look like they are part of the factory wheel. What's interesting about these is that the 6mm channel (black or silver) is what's glued on the wheel. They have 9 different color inserts that are a solid plastic that presses into the channel, so if I get tire of the red I change it to silver or heaven forbid white.

So in my option the RimPros win. I let you guys know in a year or so how well they held up.

Version 1 - RimBlades

Version 2 - RimRings

Version 3 - RimPro

You can see RimPro-Tec look the most factory-like

I ordered a pair of Trims4Rims and they don't fit the ZO6 wheel. Not sure if any of those will either as the rim edge is sharp and then channels inward to a semicircle. Anyone know of ones that do fit the ZO6 rim?

You might be able to email Rim-Pro-Tec (capo@wheelbands.com) and ask them for a small sample piece of the channel that goes to the wheel. They are really great people to deal with.

After posting this the manufacturer contacted me to offer a discount to the member of my club. I thought I would post the discount on here.

Go to wheelbands.com and select a color combo for a kit. After clicking checkout button enter discount code: vettebuddy.
That will reduce standard kit price to $89 with shipping included.

I'm not seeing how this protects anything. But being tested in the desert is by far the best marketing ploy I have red in my life.
Who the hell writes this stuff. Really. Desert tested. Fools and their money....

Sorry, but I've seen a lot of scraped wheel rims and none would have been any better off with what looks to be a thin strip of plastic momentarily between the metal and the concrete. I think they would be better marketed as cosmetic items. Just saying...

I had a set of rimblades on my C6 and they are not a thin strip of plastic. They are rubber and offer good protection assuming you don't drive or park like an idiot. The down side is if you ever have to remove the tire, the machine eats it alive so you need to order a complete 2nd set even though it's one wheel. I have no plans on putting them on my C7

I had a bad experience on the highway with rim blades and don't trust any of those types of products. I'll stick with my 3M.

Default Rim pro update?

Looking into buying the rim pro tech. Curious to know how they are holding up a year later and any issues or advice for the instillation? I have a 2017 Z06 so curious to know if they will fit in the groove right below the lip of the rim. Same look as the C7R. Thanks for all the updates, great read about all three brands. Thanks

Kinda reminds me of my 1967 G T O red line tires. Good memories.

Has anyone seen actual photos of how these protectors have saved a wheel after a curbing?

You kiss the curb with any of these products and they are not going to save your wheel. Have to take a tire off for replacement or repair and I'll wager you are going to need a replacement. Why not just spend your money on a pin-stripe artist, the stripe will outlast the wheel. I spent $90.00 to have mine striped and they are great!

^^^
I've curbed two wheels in our 20 years of Corvettes, and either time would have been protected by the RimBlades that I've inspected.
Since I don't curb my wheels very often, and gently when I do; I just pay a wheel touchup guy about $100 to blend and airbrush the area. Both times, the repair was invisible afterwards and stayed that way.
Chrome wheels would be a very different and expensive story.
