I have an early build 2016 which unfortunately didn't come programmed with the Android system installed. When I took the car for one of the free oil changes the service advisor said it would be $150 to reprogram the radio so that I can have that feature. I don't mind paying because it's something that I would use every time I drive the car, do you guys think that's a fair price. I understand they "charge what they charge". There are 2 other dealers in my area (15 miles) do you think it would be worth a shot to see if they charge less? I mean 15 min and 150$, sure but I'm not trying to get it for free or anything. If I can save a few bucks I can put it towards some gas or maybe a new claybar kit or something cool like that. Just looking for some opinions.
...a nd before you guys say it calling around probably won't do me any good, face to face is where you can make the deals happen.
There's another thread somewhere on this. My recollection is that it was offered for free with a coupon to be used by a certain date which has since expired. I had no intention of using android auto, so I didn't take the deal.
Now i find that Android auto is something i could use so I had it installed in my 2016 Z51. dealer charged me $125.

My 2016 (build date 1/16) also didn’t have the Android Auto but since I bought the car new, I got it installed for no charge at the place where I purchased it.
Did you buy your car new?
In any case, you’ll find it worthwhile to have it installed...it’s a great system. The Google Navigation alone is worth it...it’s so far ahead of the GM Nav, it’s laughable.
It was free for a limited time. I don't recall what the time frame was. However, I'm sure the time has passed.
That's stupid. Compatibility with AA, IMHO, was a promised feature for 2016's. As such there should be no time limit (though I've heard there is). I got mine done as soon as possible.
If I were you I would pay the money as it's well worth it.
My 2016 was built 9/15 and Android Auto was installed on 4/16. I did not get a letter from GM but i went over to my dealer and they looked up and said my car was on the list and they installed it. I use it all the time with Google maps

Thanks for the responses. I will read the other thread, I'm gonna just swing by dealer b on the way home today and see what they say. Never hurts to try.
You need to replace hardware on 14-15 cars, and there's a couple of drawbacks if you have a Z51. Search around and you'll find quite a few threads on it.
I had my early build 2016 updated to Android Auto auto earlier this year. The dealership did it for free. The paperwork said that "customer states Android Auto isn't functioning correctly" and charged the update as warranty work. I guess I got lucky because they also charged the MRC upgrade as warranty work too.
If you don't have factory navigation, Android Auto is worth doing even if you have to pay.

Yep, it was valid to Mid-April in 2017.

Well the former is a small lie, the latter is a huge lie. Good for you, but your dealer will eventually get caught doing stuff like this.
I BTW paid $60 for my Android Auto update last week as my dealer (Moran in Clinton Twp) charged .5 an hour.
NmtMev, if the $150 was priced at the dealer you bought the car from it won't hurt to negotiate a little. Grab your salesperson, walk up to the service dept manager, and offer a 100 bucks. All they can say is, No. But, they may say OK. Good luck.

Ask them what their hourly labor rate is, then offer half that. Because it takes ~30 minutes to do.
And that got to include hooking it up to the computer, walking away, walking back, and unhooking it from the computer. At least that the way they did it at my dealer.
