I’m curious whether it’s okay to leave rain water on your car after you’ve garaged it for the night. I’ve always dried my vette off, figuring rain spots would damage the paint. But I could be wasting my time. What do you think?
Rain?? We still have SNOW and 6+ more tomorrow If only someone would tell Mother Nature to knock off the joke
Just want to get out and drive my car that's all
I know I will never do it again. I got caught in a light misty rain a few miles from the house. Brought the car home and parked in the garage and figured I would get to it in the next day or so. My car is always clean and waxed so I thought it would be fine. When I did wash the car, I could not get the spots off. They marked the clear coat, the XPEL, and the glass. I tried everything to get them off down to razor blades, acetone, vinegar, and every other cleaner I had around the house and nothing worked. No idea what was in that rain but it did a number on the finish. Ended up taking it to a detailer and costing over 1k to get the paint, glass, and XPEL corrected. If it even looks like rain around here, my car stays in the garage.

As each poster has given his/her advise, all valid for each of them, its up to you and what you want.
Want a car that has no water spots? Most water has pollutants, pollutants make spots, some spots are hard to remove. If it is your wish to have no spots then get after it each and every time the car gets wet.
Some, like me, wish to have spot free car but not enough to get out the cloths each and every time so we put up with a few spots. Once a year in the spring before show season I clay, polish, seal, and Aquawax paint and glass. No spots again for a while.
Some wish to enjoy the car and heck with spots as long as the car is clean and runs well.
Make sure you have a good sealant on the car and most of the rain drops will slide off. Then its up to you if you want to risk having water spots that may or may not come off to easily. Some water spots are very very difficult to come off and because of my OCD I just wipe them or blow them off only takes a few minutes then I don't have to worry about it. Depends how picky you are
rain isn't the issue near us. lawn sprinklers on the other hand..wow. talk about spots? the car is so small, a bottle of quick detailer and a couple micro fibers. Done. if its piece of mind that's the move.
Never had issues in Austin with 25yrs of Vette daily drivers.
NOW, leaving our hard water on it after a wash in the sun will end in disaster. Ask me how I know. A neighbor distracted me on my '93 Polo Green many years ago and it took days of polishing to get rid of it.
