Does it update the system to use Android Auto? If so I would do it in a heart beat. Wish my 16 had it.

Or just free for everyone that paid the exact same price for it...

More likely is that they had to package NAV with PDR after the first year so PDR sales could prop up a failing option, considering the (at the time) future advent of Apple Carplay and Android Auto

But it isn't. You don't need it anyway. Although they boast of "thousands" of changes, the likelihood of a change being relevant to you is very small. It's not worth it, IMO.

Annnnd... here we go again.

Welcome to the exact same "EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FREE!!" Nav update whining thread that has occured here on the Corvette Forum every month for the past 10 years.

Were "Free Nav Updates" in your sales contract? Anywhere in official GM literature? Or do you just go on 'feels' that you are magically entitled to it, despite the complete lack of documentation to that entitlement?

Check around -- you'll find that most major automakers charge for the annual Nav update *if* the owner chooses to get it.

Don't want it? Don't get it. Your Nav will keep working just fine.

Most all brands charge for software updates, unless you're buying Tesla.

Like Kent said above-not much in this world is free.....including your software updates.

My daily driver is a 2007 Acura TL Type S. Acura charges for their updates too. Either pay for it or don't.....

16's should already have Android Auto, if your car doesn't have it your dealer will update your head unit on GMs dime.

Why in the world would you even click on this thread if it bothers you so? Maybe you just wanted the opportunity to vent your frustration with someone else venting their frustration.

The NAV update is a veritable ripoff. It is mostly a money making gimmick. There are seldom any noticeable changes to the information that is actually useful so getting it once every five years or so is realistic. Even the Garmin units I have with free lifetime map updates don't get brought in the house and plugged into the computer very often. The majority of the changes are for the POI entries, so unless it is important to know where the newest Applebee's is located you don't really need it because the street it is on is already plotted.

The price for the update bugs me, too. So I will get in my little whine every time it comes up on here, with apologies to those whose lives are destroyed by clicking on the thread.

My 16 didn't have it. It was updated by GM for free for me during my first year of ownership. I had to actually request it from them. I'm almost positive that ship has sailed and you will be charged for this update.

Although claiming NAV updates, the letter reads as if they are trying to sell a 2018 map update.
