Default Eye-lid removal?

Hey guys,

Has anyone removed the acrylic headlight eyelids in the past? I picked up my C7 a few days ago and the existing owner had installed them. My concern of course is damaging the headlight upon removal. I know one of the vendor that sells these says they are put on with 3M automotive adhesive. I'm guessing I could use something like fishing line and then adhesive remover, but would want to be careful.

thanks!

Do you mean those goofy eyelash things that are often seen on VW's?

Haven't messed with those specifically, but the procedure you described seems to make sense. Same way you remove an emblem from a bumper.

Get it started by slipping an exacto or razor blade under an edge.Use hair dryer over the film to soften the adhesive. With steady pressure and even heat you should be able to pull the film off. Some adhesive might be left behind. I'm not sure what adhesive remover will work on the rest without damaging the clear lens though.

It depends on what type they are. Are they the rigid ones that have some thickness to them and stick above the adjoining surfaces a bit, or simply thin vinyl?

The latter will come off with a good finger-nail (less apt to scratch surfaces than a blade) and a hair dryer. As for left over adhesive for either type "lid" GOO GONE is about the safest for all surfaces, though it may require patience, a consistent clean surface of a towel, and elbow-grease.

All the best.

Try 3M Adhesive Remover. I get it at NAPA. Never fails to do the job. I was given a can by a dealer's body shop years ago and used it ever since.

I guess I get it, it looks more aggressive and I don't think they look bad on my car, but I prefer to avoid the "add-on look".

My biggest concern is on damaging the finish of the light. If it's 3m adhesive, I'm thinking I'm ok. If there an additive, it will be interesting. I absolutely love my new car and these are the only thing I'm not in love with. Thanks guys.

What are we talking about? Removing a film over the headlights or the actual hard plastic cover over the lights? If so, why? Isn't that film there to prevent scratches?

Seeing how I didn't put them on the car, I'm not sure who it was. I have asked the dealership to ask the original owner (who works at the dealer) to provide the details, but haven't heard back yet. Additionally, I reached out to the vendor who I thought might be the manufacturer and they said they weren't theirs.

Look...As stated above, I DID reach out to the manufacturer who I believed produced this part and was told they didn't make these after showing them a picture. I have also sent out another message to another manufacture. I know it's fun to be "captain obvious" on the forum, but if you're not going to read what I wrote, then why bother responding? Please don't waste any of your time on my behalf.

Additionally, anyone else who has had experience with similar products can be HELPFUL with suggestions.

All better. Hair dryer took it off and loosened ashesive enough to get most of the glue off by rolling my thumb over it. Little goo gone and wax and we're good.
