Default New Paint Shop Minutiae?

I noticed today that my new paint shop 2018 Sebring Orange is clear-coated on the painted parts under the hood and trunk, and the finish is as nice as the exterior of the panels. That was not the case on my 2014.

Is this a new paint shop process or are other MYs from the old paint shop clear-coated on both front and back sides of hood and trunk? It is common on our other vehicles I've owned to have base but not clear coat on under hood or trunk surfaces. Even my Jaguar F-Type had base, but no clear-coat under-hood.

Hood underside looks shiny clear coated over the Arctic White.
Trunk underside, flat black - no shine on my 2017.

I just popped the hood to check. 2017 LBR. I used a flashlight up close. The metallic is on there just fine, but I do not believe the clear coat is there. It does not have the level of smoothness and polish as the top. I even rubbed some wax on it and polished it up so I was comparing (almost) apples to apples. Found a new place to clean, however.

2015 AW here and I know I don't have any clear coat on the under side of the hood because it drives me nuts being impossible to keep clean for that reason. That is a nice improvement!

Interesting. Even the inner fender panels under the hood have the same brilliant finish as all the other exterior body panels.

I do recall during one of the briefings Jeremy posted here last fall about the new paint process, it was explained that part of the new plant design were new racks to ensure coverage from all angles during the paint process.

Foosh, do you have a convertible? The trunk underside on my 2019 Z06 Convertible (TPW was 3/12/2018) is flat black like Skid Row Joe described.

I should have been more clear. I was talking about the inner edges of the trunk you can see, as well as inner lip of the rear panels where the fasteners are. You're right that most of the inner trunk is covered by satin black plastic panels that aren't painted at all. If those plastic panels were removed, I'd expect to see the inner side of the trunk lid would be clear-coated as well.

It doesn't photograph well, but this is what I was referring to in the trunk and those inner pieces are also clear-coated.

So it's a keeper then ? Did it throw any more codes or are you happy that the issue with the O2 sensor is solved?

Orange is an awesome color ! and this one changes with the lighting ! Just beautiful!

So far, so good . . . 9 restarts since 02 sensor replaced, completely normal engine ops, and no codes.

Well yes and no. When I went to pick up the car the next morning. The CEL came on solid as soon as I started it, but the engine was running normally. I shut it down walked back to the service desk and said, "I need a loaner, it's still throwing codes."

This time it was throwing new codes pointing directly at one of the 4 02 sensors. They called Chevy Tech Support, who reported to the dealer that they've had recent problems with 02 sensors, and told the dealer to replace that sensor, which they had in stock.

After 2 days of trying to figure out what the problem was, it was a simple 45-minute fix, and no problems since.
