I have a 2014 Stingray with the 3LT package and the 9 speaker Bose sound system. I was looking through the infotainment manual and it talks about receiving/replying to text message. There is little or no information on how to setup this feature. A call to Onstar was not productive. They claimed I needed Apple Car Play. I informed the agent the Apple Car Play was not available on the 2014 Stingray. The agent sent to a specialist the claimed the feature was not available until 2015. Odd that the 2014 manual talks about the feature. Has anyone been able to setup text messing? Does anyone know if it even available on the 2014 Stingray?
Synch phone and it’s automatic. When you receive a text it will pop up on your cluster screen. Press the center button on the steering wheel right side and it will read you the text.

Ahem...
On a 2014, you are saying that text messaging is an option? I don't seem to have that functionality on my '14. I was under the impression that text messaging was introduced in later year models.
My manual does mention "Text Messaging" but it also says "if equipped". I have every option offered on my '14 and Text Messaging must be hiding rather well because I don't see it.
Texting did not make it into 2014 Corvette production. Android Auto and Apple Carplay were not on 2014's either. (Texting is on my 2014 GMC and just requires a bluetooth phone link).

It's on my 2015 Z51. There are only a limited number of canned responses you can text back. If I get a text from a business and get it read to me, it reads back the full URL, too (https colon slash slash ....) . Texts from people are OK.
My 2014 didn't have the text feature. I got it when I installed the 2016 hardware. I wish it had speech to text. The canned responses are still pretty cumbersome to use from the main screen. I haven't played with the Android Auto voice texting system yet.
I noticed my 2017 phone screen has "canned text responses." I didn't explore further whether I could reply with selected print messages. using Android.
Putting it on the infotainment screen doesn't make it any safer to do than using your phone directly, IMO. It still takes your eyes and mind off the road. I can spot phone users a mile away, even those who just talk via bluetooth.
Unfortunately, the number of distracted drivers is astonishing, and getting even worse everyday, as our cars start resembling our living rooms more and more.

HDMI. it is located on the driver's side, just above the kick panel. It has the GPS antenna attached to it and is easy to swap BUT if you have a 14, you might lose some features the 14 has to gain the text function.
This pictures shows it at the top left. It has a gray, blue, green, and black plug connection on the bottom. The GPS antenna is there too but hidden by some wires in the picture.
I think talking on the phone affects my driving even on bluetooth hands free in a way that talking to a passenger sitting next to me does not. I'm not saying it impairs me, or anything, but it's certainly different than talking to a passenger, at least for me. While I have a few pet theories about how the brain works, I don't know why this effect is actually true for me.
Then again I knew a guy killed by an oncoming driver who dropped his cigarette and who crossed the median reaching for it, hitting my in his no seat-belt, no collapsing column, 65 Falcon.
So smoking can be distracting, so can talking, eating, or anything that isn't DRIVING.
