Default An expensive lunch

Took the vert out Sat morning. My block was one giant blind spot. SUV's and pick ups. Backed out of the driveway slowly and backed right into a young girl driving a junker.
My fault. She was totally upset. Told her not to worry about it and let her go.
Went for a couple of estimates. Here's where it gets interesting. 2 of the "recommended" body shops didn't know what paint protection film was. One guy says "you mean Polyglycoat ?" I ran out of there.
Finally got to a good shop. Guy had Porsches and Mercedes in the yard.
Asked if he could just spray the bumper and match it. No Problem.
Only problem is the price $3100 in damage. Funny thing is all three estimates were within $300 of each other.
New upper and lower bumper covers, new tail light bezel, emblem and lettering.

Sorry to see that damage and hope they can fix it like new. I don't want to sound negative but your post came across as a bit rude. "struck a young girl driving a junker". Is that really necessary to state, I'm sure it is what she wants/can afford to drive, wouldn't have mattered if it was a Lambo since you backed into her. "told her not to worry about it and let her go". Come on now, actually she let you go. You admitted that you backed into her. She could easily have called the police and reported the accident with you clearly being in the fault...imagine your insurance having to pay for repairs to her "junker".

Sorry I had to get that off my chest, as I respect everyone without regard for what they choose to drive. Again, I really do hope your car can be repaired to look as great as it was looking before the accident.

Feel for you, bud. Somehow, it's worse when that happens to your vette. Backing out is always an issue, like in a parking lot. But with the C7, the rear camera sees things much better than I can when there's a big car on either side. Never had one until now, and now I watch the camera when backing out more than turning my head!

She even said she felt so bad because her car was a POS.

I got distracted from your original question. You can go to Trunk Monkey parts.com order a new bumper cover I guess $500. order rear diffuser $500. All years all models are the same 2014-2019 for the rear diffuser. Rear tail light bezel probably $75. Give paint shop parts $500 to paint then you install yourself.

Well gee that makes it okay! Hope you don't have any friends with low self esteem haha. Glad you're getting it fixed! I always let people finish backing out when I'm driving if they were already reversing.

I backed into her midsection.

It was already wrecked on that side. I barely touched her. Just caught a bad angle.

Yeah, I know I could do it for half the price, but I have 2 surgeries coming up and don't have the head to get into it right now. Would've gone that route.
Body shop offers lifetime warranty and if it doesn't line up right it's on them.

Yeah, it was a nice day. Went to lunch at marina and had a couple of cold ones (2) to ease the pain.

Sorry to here about your accident especially a Torch Red C7 but is a easy color for a boy shop to match. Good luck and show us some pictures when she is all fixed up!

Much respect for this. So many think because we are able to drive a nice car makes us better somehow. This comes up often when an Avg price vehicle parks next to a Corvette in a parking lot. Most of the time I think the person believes you won't hit them and it's a safe spot.

I knew someone would say the drunk driving thing.
Sorry, I'm 6'3" 250 lbs and 2 Bud Lights over an hour don't equal drunk driving. Maybe you're a lightweight.

I'd love to hear her side of the story. "So this old dude in a mid-life crisis car backs out of his driveway without even looking and runs into my car. He was so old and upset that I let him go."

That sounds like it costs more that actually just replacing the whole deal with some complete aftermarket parts... replace the whole thing

I gotta say, I don’t get the over sensitivity regarding calling someone’s car a junker? I have certainly had my share of them. It’s relevant because having owned a junker, if someone hits you, you don’t care about the insurance if they didn’t impact your ability to drive away after.

One of the reasons I still have 2 "junkers". As in, a small dent I am not getting fixed.

I don't think the OP was negative saying the girl's car was a "junker". It was showing irony and the immutability of Murphy's law, with the juxtaposition of a beautiful and $$ C7 colliding with an, ahem, lesser vehicle.

Did you consider used parts? I just bought a Home Link visor for my 1LT off Ebay and it came out of a white '14 vert that had front end damage. The rest of the car looked pretty good (they posted several pictures of the donor car). OK Auto Parts in MS. Looks like they specialize in Vettes and Camaros. They also had a red coupe but that was a little rougher looking even though it was also hit in the front.
