So I'm not at home to test this so I apologize for the laziness in advance. Can anyone confirm if it is possible to view the front camera while reversing? There are times when I may park in the spot near a curb and want to make sure I've cleared the curb before turning to avoid damage to the splitter and skirts (17 GS)
Of course it is just as important to watch the rear view window/mirrors/cameras also. I have heard a lot of stories about damaged ground effects kits and thought a front camera could help prevent this in some cases.
My memory says it's possible but you know how memory can be.

I don't think a camera is going to help in that situation. Just check where the curb is and keep pulling out until you think you are going to clear it as you turn.

As far as I know, when you shift to reverse, only the rear camera will be activated. Unless you can figure out a way to get in there and reprogram stuff.
Have you tried pushing the camera icon on the infotainment screen while in reverse? Prolly won't work, but give it a shot...
I believe once the camera is activated, you should have the option to touch an icon just below the image to switch between the front view and rear view. I think I've done that before.
I believe that's possible, think I've done it as well. I wish there was a hard button on the radio or dash so even with the radio off the front cameras can be quickly accessed. And it would be nice if they worked from a faster speed too, the rear works at a faster speed.
Saw this in another thread. The birds eye camera is looking better and better now:
Ouch! I just kissed a curb with my poverty splitter, just a few light scratches. Even then I have a new oem splitter coming till I can find the right deal on a stage 2. 😊

Reason: Auto correct got me...
17 GS while in reverse in a A8 car the rear camera is displayed on the screen and the front camera icon at the bottom of the screen is greyed out so you can't access that camera. You can only access it when in park or drive( less than 5mph). At least that's how my car works.
I've been guilty of this as well.
Best i can come up with is to go into settings and set up the side view mirrors to rotate down when in reverse so you can see the curbing as you back out
I have this in my truck and SUV. Great technology however it's getting pretty bad that folks aren't taught to judge distance anymore. Not saying I don't use the technology though :-)

It has been a great aid for those of us with distance judgement disability.
A little off the Camera topic, my M.Benz's had a front lift of 2" to save the front end. SL550 $ 135,000. deff. yes, SLK 350 $ 85,000. maybe, it's been 6-7 years.
We have spent 20+ pages on lowering bolts, and I know at lest 75% of you will get a crack or rash on their Areo splitter, so why don't we ask GM for a automatic rise and lower option.
They aren't making all the $$$ on splitters, the aftermarket controls that part of the biz.

Reason: price of SLK
My F-150 Platinum has the birds eye view. Not needed as much in a truck with a square front end that you can see as it is on the GS. I rarely use it in my truck unless in an extremely tight spot with a trailer on the truck.
I almost always back the Vette in. Seems safer that way, plus a habit from before the front view camera.

I programed my bird's eye to come on at speeds under 6 mph. So with any parking it is already there. We ski a lot and park in concrete undergrounds with tight spaces fore, aft and sides. It is a very big help for me there.
My Escalade has birds-eye view, it's really nice. My Range Rover has 5 cameras but it doesn't array them like that for you, you'd have to watch the front corner cams, for example.
I think it's the Rolls Royce (which is in turn derived from BMW iDrive I think) they capture the environment and somehow 3D model it, and then render the scene from a third party perspective as if you were outside the car looking at the scene.
It's pretty swanky if it works, I've only seen it in videos.

How did you do the programming? That would be great.
