Disabling the driver mode selector
Hi guys!
My name is Joris and I live in the Netherlands.
I run a company in rental wedding cars with my buddy.
We are big fans of the american muscle cars, that's why we've got a couple of them.
Our carpark today:
Ford Mustang convertible 4.0 V6 2010
Chevrolet Camaro convertible 3.6 V6 2011
Dodge Challenger 3.6 V6 2011
Ford Mustang coupe 3.7 V6 2013
Dodge RAM 1500 5.7 V8 2014
Maserati Ghibli 3.0 S 2015
AND since 2 months we are the proud owners of a Chevrolet Corvette c7 Convertible
Now my question:
We would like to disable the driver mode selector "button/disc", because we don't trust our costumers to drive in Sport or even Track mode.
Do you guys know if there's a possibility to make this happen?
Greetings,
Joris Meesters

I don't think it can be disabled - it controls many functions of the car.
I drive my in Sport mode all the time. I wouldn't worry much about that mode. I would share your concern about Track mode and even more importantly, being able to disable the nanny's (Stability Control/StabiliTrak).

You could try to pull the counsle and unplug the mode selector from underneath. Wether that will cause a problem code to be displayed I couldn't say. Good Luck.

I would suggest that you might wish to come up with a "seal" and put over the button attaching to both sides. It could be made of a personally printed, light-wait paper with a non water-based, one-time adhesive it's entire length.
Some racing sanctioning bodies used to do similar to seal gas-fillers. Nothing would be fool-proof but such would be a deterrent to messing with the mode button. That, along with a financial penalty for the seal being altered would be my suggestion, barring actual disabling the controller.
All the best, and "fun" selection of cars!

The drive mode doesn't detune to the engine to make it slower so what is the point? Just unplug a couple of coil packs connectors. That oughta do it!

The Mode Swith really does little for what you are trying to accomplish! Makes the ride stiffer if you have MRC!
Why not just put it in "Valet Mode" and limit the available power!

Valet mode doesn't limit power in the C7. At least not in the U.S. version. By the same token, though, Sport and Track mode don't make any more power than Tour mode.

To me the real key is that the same switch is used to disable the nannies (Stability Control/StabiliTrak), as I stated earlier. With the nannies turned off, you can get into trouble real easy. The nannies make it more difficult, but by no means impossible, to totally lose control with too much right foot.

As they like to tell folks at Spring Mountain, if you really want to let someone else drive your car, put it in the wet weather mode, that is where the most nanny's are. But as others have said, I don't think there is a way to disable. You can try pulling fuses, but that may throw a code. Just need to rely on your insurance.

If the car doesn’t have Mag Ride it really would be unnecessary to disable the Mode switch. If it does have Mag Ride and was set to Track Mode it’s possible to bend a wheel on potholes.

Another thought! Just screw a wood block under the gas pedal at say Max half throttle! Paint it black and no one would know. Easy to to do as I had my pedal out when installing my Vitesse Throttle Controller-one bolt and a plug. Could be made to look unobtrusive.

Thanks for all the tips guys!
The main reason i'd like to disable the mode switch is because of the "nanny's", like Zymurgy said.
I don't like to pull the fuses or unplug the selector, cause it's difficult for me to erase the faultcoudes here in Holland.
The valet mode isn't the solution, i've read that the drive mode can still be changed in valet mode.
I think the best solution is to put something over it, like Avanti said, just have to figure out what to place over it.
Thanks for the quick response!

Remove the **** from the center console and hide it somewhere under the trim. Than put a cover where the **** used to be. If you dress it up right, someone may just think the mode select **** was an option your car didn't get.

This might sound like a shitty solution but I would put it in the mode you want and use some super glue so you can't use it anymore. Yeah, sucks, and yes, you will have to purchase a new switch if you want to change it later, but it might be the easiest solution.
