So I've had my first Corvette (and V8) for two weeks now and I thought I'd post my initial thoughts on it.
This car gets tons of attention, I new it would get some but wow its like I'm driving around in something much more exotic. I'm sure being in a smaller city out of the way doesn't help. I've had two Porsche's show me what they got within 30min of taking delivery and I've had tons of people pointing and looking just driving around town, it feels pretty good.
I ran into 3 other Corvettes today and they all waved, flashed their brights etc, it felt good to be part of a good community. I hope it lasts for years to come.
I feel really connectrd to the road in this car, to the point that if I'm going the speed limit I don't feel a need to go faster because I feel like I'm already going fast enough this low to the ground. I'm sure I'll get used to it and will push it further but for now its quite a different experience.
The Vette is much more comfortable then my last car. I could just drive for hours and never feel like I need to readjust myself, which I've heard wasn't always the case in previous cars.
I'm averaging 25mpg in the car right now, lifetime. I think thats amazing for what this car can do. I'm sure it helps my town is small so 50%+ of my driving is highway but I really don't need to concern myself with gas prices as much as I thought I would.
Cleaning. I've found that dirt really likes to get into the area just under where the door meets the sills to the point I can't reach it unless I open the door but its noticeable on the outside. I end up wiping it down every two days.
Overall my expectations have been met or exceeded! I know I'm going to love this car for many years.
What struck me on my initial drive home the 250 miles from the Chev. dealership I bought my new 2017 Corvette convertible was; that this is probably the best car I've ever owned. My first new Corvette was a C3 in 1977. The 2017 tops it.
Congrats on your new Corvette! I get about 85 % back on the WAVE the one's that don't we are usually in heavier traffic. These car are a blast to drive and heck sometimes I think I'm going fast while I'm sitting still ! Enjoy your new Corvette!
This is my first Vette too and I want to echo the surprise at the attention it gets. There is no doubt these are fantastic looking cars and I always have and will continue to admire them when I see them on the streets but the random conversations that get started up at places like gas stations is pretty cool.
Another point you made that I agree with is the comfort level in this car. While I do wish the seat would go back just an inch more, traveling in it is no problem at all. It is just a comfortable seating position to me. The seats are huggy (I know that is not a word, but I am going to use it anyhow) without being to restrictive. I imagine if I would lose those 15 - 20 pounds that I been hanging on to for the past two decades it might even be better.
I am tremendously pleased with this car and still stare at it when I go out to the garage for a drink.
When GM sends you an invite to spring mountain race track it's a must go to event to get more educated about your car. They can help you with any questions you have with your car. Super great people and facility.
