Default Colgan Bra Install Need Help

Hi,

I just had my front bumper painted and it's an exact match and look wonderful. Anyway, I let the paint breathe for 4 weeks and now I'm ready to install my Colgan Bra. Once I'm retired and not commuting I will take it off. I went to put it on yesterday. The front of the install is very easy. However, there are S hooks that are suppose to hook on to something in the fender well. I want this bra to be easy to take on and off. I wish it had a snaps like the gm bra. Instructions are useless. Can anyone help me with this? I have no idea what to hook the S hooks on to. Thanks

Trader, I've got the Colgan also. Run your finger along the inside of the fender where the wheel well cover meets the fender. Somewhere about the 11 o'clock position you will feel a little indentation with a small lip. Hook 'er right there. That hook keeps the bra in place around the wheel well opening.

Might I suggest some painters tape along the edges (front/side of the bumper and the painted section above the splitter). I do this for my peace of mind to keep the bra from rubbing. No matter how tight I think that bra is, at 70 mph on the interstate I'm afraid it will move a bit. And also, take it off approx. every two weeks to make sure no dust or debris has crept under there.

Good advice from Rebel Yell. BTW, what cup size did your car take?

I found the idents for the s hooks. Not the best setup but it should work. It would have been nice if there was some way to put a snap in like the gm bra. Doesn't look bad. Painters tape is a good idea - hopefully it doesn't melt itself to the paint. Thanks again

Just wondering how long you have had the bra? Do you find a lot of dirt under the bra when you take it off? I actually like it better than I thought. I had my front bumper painted about 35 days ago. Do you know if the bra is breathable? I hope I'm not rushing things. I'll post a pic tomorrow. Thanks!

I started with the GM bra hoping it was as good as the C6 Gm bra. Mercy, I'm here to tell you it wasn't even close. Sent it back for a refund. I've only test fitted the Colgan as of now, but will be using it on a long westward road trip in Sept. The way it's designed I don't foresee any problems popping up.

As far as dirt, and dust it will creep under there. If you get caught in the rain, the rain will wash dirt particles under the bra also. Even bugs will get under the edges if your on the interstate at speeds. I'm may be over cautious, but as they say "An ounce of prevention".........

As far a breathable, the one I used for the brides Mustang GT was so I sure this one is also. I read up on this Colgan before I bought it, but can't remember all I read. I'm quite sure if it wasn't, I wouldn't have bought it.

And the painters tape will be fine. It's designed to use on painted surfaces, and doesn't have the save adhesive as standard tape. Of course, it's just a temporary thing also.

After you've used yours for awhile you'll have a better idea of the precautions you need to take.

I have found though that with heavy use like the 5k+- road trips we take the bras are good for only 3 trips. They began to get loose, and stretched. I threw the one for the wife's car away after the 3rd trip. It started to mare the paint around the bumper edge. that took some buffing to fix.
