I have 2 tops for my Corvette - the exposed carbon fiber top I use in in Spring and Summer, and a clear top for Fall and Winter. As of yesterday, I had the clear top on the car; it was around 70 degrees and i thought it would be nice to take the top off for nice drive. The car had been sitting in partial shade and sun, but when I went to unlatch the top the interior frame was so hot it burned my hands. Never had this happen, but I will say that i'm thinking about not using the top as much because it hurt like Hell. The carbon fiber top is on the car to stay until Winter.
I had the same thing happen for the first time this weekend. The latches were cool, but when I got the roof loose and put my hands under the edge to take it the rest of the way off, I got a very unpleasant surprise.
Sorry to hear about the burn... when I picked up my car it was sitting out in the sun, so when he showed me how to remove/install the roof we used one in the showroom because the salesman told me we'd burn our hands on the one outside. So... lucky for me I learned my lesson in "school" and not in practice.
Oh yeah! And I have a vert, but same rule applies, I burned myself pretty badly after just a few minutes of southwest sun exposure last summer. The interior metal parts get hot very fast. Now top goes up when oarked--always, and I wear long sleeve tea shirts as well.

I don't think you are talking about the same thing as the OP.
Also, they make a shade for those tops. It is on amazon for $99. I just got one and it keeps all the sun out of the car, I really really love it! It has been one of my fav mods, check it out. No more sun beating down on my head and shoulders. The tint wasn't enough for me.
I kept gloves in the car when I owned a coupe. But, I rarely took it off because it was like putting a piece of hot lava in the back of the car. There's no insulation or anything to separate yourself and the top. The reason my last 3 have been convertibles.
