Default Injured While At Work -- Cannot Drive My Corvette

On May 1st, I took a bad fall while at work and injured my right leg. I have a minor fracture on my patella (kneecap) and muscle damage to my quadricep. I am home on workman's comp and have to wear a knee immobilizer (kind of a large plastic & velcro brace) and am using crutches when having to walk more than 50 feet or so. I will get a more complete diagnosis from the orthopedic specialist whom I see on Monday, the 15th.

I am not able to drive ANY car at all right now, since I cannot bend my right knee. I have been getting around by having my girlfriend, my son and my neighbor give me a lift if I need one. I last drove my Corvette on Saturday, April 28th and - fortunately - cleaned it thoroughly before putting it back in my garage. I guess I should be happy about that.

Never take your mobility for granted, folks! The weather has gotten better, the leaves are all green now and the Corvette is eager to go somewhere..........but here I sit. Argh!

My son is grown and lives 40 minutes away, but he cannot drive a stick. My only other choice is to let my girlfriend or next-door neighbor drive it with me being the passenger (DOH!). I hate to let it sit any longer than necessary.

Should I be concerned about "flat-spotting" my tires if it sits longer than thirty days? I have the run-flat OEM Michelins on it.

Cheers!

Sorry to hear that ...

Tires will be fine, just like when some of us do winter storage.

Gee that sucks. Sorry to hear 'bout this. Hope you recover soon so can can get back up and enjoy your ride. I saw this online if flat spotting is a real concern you have.

Newer radial tires, if inflated properly, won't flat spot enough to notice over several months. If they do flat spot it will go away after a few miles of driving. The Race Ramp Flat Stoppers are designed for older cars with bias ply tires (look at the photos on their site) which will flat spot. Don't waste your money on them if you have radial tires.

Heal up and get well so you can enjoy your Vette again.

Race Ramps product tech literature indicates all tires can be effected not just bias tires..

Don't worry about the tires flatspotting - most of us up north let our Corvettes sit for 2-4 months at a time. I would be concerned about the battery going dead - we also use a battery charger/maintainer like the Ctek to keep the battery from going dead in 3-4 weeks.

trickle charge or just have someone start it and run it on occasion- that way you wont forget the exhaust note.

As long as its non displaced you'll need to keep it straight for 6-8 weeks. That's means you'll really enjoy the car once back in it!

Really hard to get in and out even as a passenger with that freaking leg brace- usually much easier to passenge in an SUV

I would up the pressure to the max allowed based on what's on the sidewalls. This will minimize any flat spotting but as others have said it will not be a problem as any flat spots will work themselves out when you drive it again. Sorry about your leg.

Trickle charge yes. Start once in a while, NO! Don't worry about anything else.

You should use a battery maintainer not a trickle charger. Deltran Battery Tenders are really inexpensive or you can buy a CTEK from Amazon for less than $100. They sell a model that is more advanced than the one GM sells as a Corvette accessory for $100.

Of course they do, they're trying to sell them. It's a giant waste of money for a car with radial tires.

Your good to go. Don't worry. In Virginia it's not likely to have 10 below weather to deal with in the next 6-8 months. It's rubber.

Regarding the topic of flat spotting on radial tires, read these links.

Read the first post here:

https://classicmotorsports.com/forum...s/96855/page1/

and read what Tire Rack says about this topic, they're the experts, they sell millions of tires.

Keep Googling and posting useless stuff. Those of us with many years of experience storing cars for weeks to months on various kinds of tires know better.
