Yep, My install PDF has:
1) What didn't work tapping the passenger sun visor mirror light
2) How I used fuse 37 in the rear for my 2014
3) How I used the mirror for my Grand Sport.
Fuse 37 isn't easier it straight forward and easy. The wire just tucks into the carpet molding. But where I mount my detector, to the right of the mirror it requires routing up the A pillar. Have seen folks who mount it on the dash and it would be easy for that location,
This is the PDF: http://netwelding.com/Radar_Detector_Power.pdf
Actually its very simple, and easy. The big tricks are selecting the right size tap out of the kit, and getting it inserted far enough. A small set of needed nose to push the tap all the way in is a huge help. Less then 30 minutes to tap the mirror for power, and to install and mount the detector on it.
That is key, getting the tap to seat all the way.
I found if if you push the tap in on the cent side of the plug cavity it goes in easier and deeper.
Last update: I got the fuse from NAPA. There were 3 in the pack for less than $2.
I switched my tap on the red wire to the purple wire, then changed the fuse. I'm in business, it didn't blow the fuse again and I now have a radar detector that turns on and off with the ignition.
Your purple power wire tap at the mirror is/was probably fine. Remember it doesn't go on unless the car is running (or if you hold the key for 10 seconds).
This all sounds like more trouble than it's worth. I found it very easy to install the add a fuse to 37 in the trunk. Took all of about 30 minutes with no headaches.
My mirror tap and blendmount took less than 15 minutes total. But I have done them before. It is by far the best way!
I can. But then I'm a nut who likes to solder everything too!
I wish these were reliable though, I need them so often but never use taps.
Yep, bought those for my C6 and have a bunch! Also like to solder!
However the C7 does not lend itself to either. Not much room! I used Blendmount wire and a dentil pick tool to enlarge the space before using a pair of small needle nose pliers to push them in. Worked fine.
