They get dirty so fast I rarely bother. But when Im in the mood I just wipe them with a greasy old shop rag and 1 minute later they look great.

I let my exhaust tips cool off and wipe them down with 70% isopropyl alcohol. The tips look like new. Just do not use if the tips are hot.

You don't need to do the second step. Mag polish will do it on it's own.

Mine on my Z51 are painted black. Looks better than chrome (my opinion) clean and way better after sooting them up after a few miles. Plus I don't have to be super **** on the cleaning. This makes sense for me as I daily drive the car and take it on trips for about 20k miles/year. Besides the yellow paint and calipers, most everything is black including mild window and headlight tinting and painted side markers (lights still shine through red and orange) and rear reflectors plus the added stage 2/3 side skirts. The grille and tail lights are Z06 (thus eliminating the chrome grille strip and red tail lights) and the badges were swapped from chrome to black and the Stingray emblems and Corvette script were removed. So, other than yellow and black, the only other colors are clear back up and tail lights and chrome wheels for an accent. Makes for a very clean look which is my preference. I know I kind of went off on a tangent there but I was just pointing out why I had the tips painted black and how that works in the overall appearance of my car. FYI, the picture in my avatar is prior to some of these changes.

Mine were not too bad when I started, but they polished up great.

Easy to see who pulled #42.

I use WD40, let it sit for 1 minute and wipe with paper towel. I have a cone I made from white scotch brite pads that fits on a cordless drill, use that with polish every 4th cleaning.

Seriously, someone needs to find you something better to do with your time (like driving your Vette ). WAY too much time cleaning and polishing.

I found Bar Keepers Friend on a damp microfiber works just fine to remove the soot. My car is a daily driver / track toy so polishing to a mirror finish would be overkill. Like your wheels and paint this is one of things that is easier to keep maintained if you stay on top of it. If you ignore them for months then it requires more effort to restore that nice finish.
