Key only start?
Since owning the car (19 2LT M7) the key has separated from the FOB twice, thus leaving the key on the key ring only. One time the FOB was in my pocket and one time not. The other items on my key ring while in the pocket are hitting the key release button. So if we were to loose the FOB and just have the key only, can you start the car? Just read over the manual and did not see this addressed but expect the answer is NO.

Melting Slicks
Try this will help keep key and fob together and cost about 8 dollars for ( 2 )on Ebay or Amazon. I bought it because fob was slipping out of pocket on to seat. Sorry about sideway picture! Silicone cover keeps key in place and cover is easy to remove if you need to separate key from fob

I think this is a generational over reaction on GM's part.
On the C6's, this was/is a constant complaint; it practically takes a nuke to separate the key from the fob, so they made it easier.
So easy a breath could do it now.

Sounds like you have big jangle of keys on your key FOB ring. True?
At one point I had a single key to the outside door of my office building on my FOB, then I took it off because I only drove my Corvette to work 1 or 2 times a week. I don't even have a ring on my FOB now. It's just the FOB with the physical key inside of it.

A LONG time before GM was hit with the faulty ignition lock investigation and lawsuits it was a known problem and that was when I started keeping my vehicle keys and fobs separate from everything else. I have always owned at least two vehicles so for me it made sense to keep house and office keys on a ring separate from the fobs and I have never run into the fob/key separation issue.
I wish that GM had updated their HD pickups to fob enabled push button start and was surprised that my new 2018 Sierra Denali still uses a key in slot ignition switch. That setup is another reason I separate the fob/key from everything else so I don't have a bunch of keys rattling around the ignition switch. I also wish it had the passive lock system; I have my ATS and Z06 set to lock the doors automatically but I have to manually lock the pickup when leaving it parked somewhere.
