i think I know what it is! I picked up my c7 today and as the guy was explaining all the features he told me there is a separate gas tank behind both driver and passenger seats. Between them is a fuel pump that keeps both tanks equally full for weight balancing purposes on the track. As soon as he told me that I thought of this thread! He said you hear it working sometimes after the car turns off! The pump is center rear of the car! Boom!
Makes sense to me, thanks. Although I'm 50 and have been in some pretty loud places over the years that have damaged my hearing but I hear it every time. So how is it so many c7 owners dont hear it each time they shut down their car?

Hate to blow your bubble up but the guy that told you that was full of Horse Manure. The driver's side fuel tank has a pump in it that pumps a small amount of gasoline to a siphon pump in the passenger side tank. That small stream of gasoline is used to siphon fuel from the passenger side tank and send it to the engine. Once the passenger side tank is empty then the system pumps the gas out of the driver's side tank. If your fuel gauge is accurate and reading half full then the passenger side tank is empty and the driver's side tank is full. Basically, the same operation from the 97 C5 all the way through the C7.
Well whatever it is I also get that noise "randomly" and it does not happen very often.
Mine is a 16' I've had since Oct 2015 and it's probably only done it 5 times.
It's coming from the rear after shutting off the car and getting out.
Figure it's just another gadget doing it's thing, like all the other weird noises it makes randomly

Thanks Bill. Guess I'm back to square one now and still in search of some answers.

If it’s not a fuel pump the other electric motor is the one that operates the eLSD hydraulic pump. It’s near the dif. Should be able to put your hand on the motor when you shut the engine off and see if it’s running.
The eLSD pump is in the drivers side rear bumper cover. Not center and it only runs when you are driving.
In 7,500 miles I may have heard this noise one or two times with my A8 GS. It doesn't seem normal to hear it all the time.
It's to the left of the differential and it is not supposed to be running but like the vacuum pump in the engine compartment, a number of reports saying it was running until the power timer cuts it off. That happens if there is a leak in the vacuum line.
My thought was if for whatever reason the eLSD pump is not maintaining pressure will it operate until the required high pressure is reached or the electric power control shuts it off? I have never heard in my C7 Z51 or my Grand Sport. It is quite in my garage so think I would.
Whatever, easy enough to check IF it's not a fuel pump.
Another thought. I usually engage the parking brake before I shut off the engine. But the times where I engage it after can hear that motor. Perhaps if it doesn't get the proper signal saying it's set, it continues to apply power?
