Default Homelink button questions

Anyone been successful with programming a button for a community gate? My complex has one...button the a key fob we all use. I can't gain access for a "learning" button on it. And I really don't think they use that for programming new fobs.

I tried going through the programming process and can't get it to work. Granted, I only spent about 5 minutes with it. I'll try again when I have more time.

But...any tips or tricks in the meantime?

I've done several. Here's some tips.

. Gain access to it! Go later at night. Most of these gates have a panel you can easily remove. Take a photo of it. Look up the model number and the manufacture. Send them an email explaining what you're trying to do (find the learn button). Ask them where it is and how to use it.
. Also try the fob they give you to open the gate. Often that's all you need to program the Home Link.
. If all else fails call the handy dandy number in the manual for Home Link and have them assist you. One thing I learned - try the middle button. Seems most people set the left most button (I used to) or the right most button all the time and it can get worn out, perhaps no longer making good contact. That worked for me this time.

Having Home Link set up is great! I have a big ole gate at my new place and I love it when I come barreling in and tap the button and the gate starts opening. And I move a lot so I do this a lot.

Not all gates will work. At my last place the gate was opened by what looked like a credit card and a reader far from the gate. That one would not program at all (but my garage door did).

If you can gain access to the opener's make and model numbers, an internet search will identify the type of opener and perhaps the manufacturer can provide some guidance.

I'll try that. Will check the fob. Also, I can probably see some kind of label on the gate servo.

If you have the original gate opener, you may get it to learn from that opener.

you don't need to access the learning button on the gate controller. You just hold the middle
homelink button until it starts blinking slowly, then hold the gate key fob button until the middle homelink button blinks faster. Then your programmed. At least that's how mine works. For my garage door opener I need access to the learn button as well.

And if that fails, that's when you need the learn button. I've had more failures than successes straight from the remote.

My 2019 programmed to my entrance gate using the method described in the owners manual and the gate opener to "train" the car. Shouldn't need to access a learn code on a community gate. It did take a couple of tries, but it works although the range is very short. I have to make sure my car is just a couple feet from the gate to work.
