Default Need A Little Help Here

Can anyone help me ID what this is? Found it in the trunk of my '14 Z51 roadster and have no idea what it is or how it got there. Wife is out of state and and doesn't recognize it as anything she left in there either. Looks like a compartment cover with a recess for a tool or part but darned if I can find anything it fits. If anyone recognizes it, I'd appreciate you sharing it with me. TIA!

Battery cover with the recess for the tow hook that isn't shipped with North America cars?

Looks like the location for a tow hook. Can go front or rear for towing your car up on a wrecker or into a trailer.

Should be under the carpet! Now you have nothing protecting the battery from what will be placed on the far right corner!

Be careful when pulling up the carpet as it is very easy to tear the unbound section under the right rear plastic wheel well cover!

That was my first thought as I had to jump start it while back but I tried every way (but the correct way apparently) to fit it over the battery opening and nothing seemed to work. It was at night and I'll try it again in the daylight. Thanks to all!

Yeah, that is the cover for the battery. A tow hook (not included with the car) fits in that long slot.

Musta missed the thread: Why isn't a tow hook included with the US vette? pretty expensive after market part. Missing perhaps because of free roadside assistance during warranty?

Thanks for the replies and images - I have been puzzling about what this part is since I took delivery of a new 17 Stingray from Criswell ten days ago. When I received the car the carpet was up off the battery, and the corner by the wheel well was torn. The part was in amongst some posters, etc, - never though to try placing it over the battery. It does fit perfectly now that I know where it goes .

My tow hook was missing because there is no place put it into on the car.

But mine still came with a nifty recess in the foam, none the less.

^^

Yep like a begal, the hole is free! European cars are required to have the threaded receiver and they were installed only in those models in 2014.

Starting sometime in 2015, Z51's, then Z06 and GS have the receiver BUT no hook! Folks use them for Tracking if they need to be pulled out when they get stuck off the road.

This is mine installed in the front of my Grand Sport-just for fun at a car show.

This one from ZL1 Addons (a forum vendor) is somewhat less expensive than the simple overpriced GM product. Fits in rear compartment, not in the recess.
