im a standard guy, but figured I would try the auto as I’m getting a little older. So glad I did. Not just because I own the automatic now, but I truly love the driving experience. Corvette truly done a great job. 👍 I’m sold on the auto and so glad I gave it a try. Still love manuals and always will but would not trade the auto in this car for the manual and 5 years age I would had never thought I would say such lol

You can have both. When you want to bang gears paddle shift away like F1 drivers,

Agree 100% From 3 on the tree in a Chevy c10 pickup, to 4 speeds (wishing i had those cool Laycock de Normanville electric overdrives) in old Brits, to 5 speeds in a TR8, to 6 speeds in a 997 and two Z06's; I've been to the manual carnival and rode all the rides. I pay good money for a high tech sports car, I expect it to shift for itself.

I stopped praying at the shrine of the sacred manual transmission a long time ago, I like the auto in my Corvette. I have owned more manual transmission vehicles than auto equipped ones including Corvettes so I have driven both and just prefer autos at the moment.

My C5 and C6 were both manuals but I have come to enjoy the auto in my C7.

I have an auto also but I really wish they had a + and - on the gear shift, just something about using your right arm to shift and the paddles DO NOT give that feeling..

I do love the performance shift when you get on it in auto mode, I wish there was a switch that would keep it in that mode

That was something I so much enjoyed on the automatic of my 2007 Miata. Seldom used the paddles. Seemed more natural to me to bump the gear select **** fore and aft for up and down shifts. What a fun little car that was!

Kinda... I think that the Corvette is the only one with a torque converter auto. The rest are dual clutch transmissions with computer controls. (or sequencial manuals with comp control.)

I learned to drive on a M, had a few M sports cars and even a rare M pickup truck. But when I got sick of repairs on my 911 (the last straw was $3000 for two leaky radiators) I went back to an Audi. The Audi I wanted, an S3 Vert, only came with a DCT. The car itself was the same weight and the same HP as my 911, but seemed so much quicker in my hands. I do know that the A8 is not technically the same as a DCT, but in driving it does not feel that different. Over the last 3 seasons I moved more and more to M mode.

I seem to switch back and forth between a manual and auto tranny. My current Vette has an auto in it and I have no complaints. It’s still a fun car to drive.

Used to always buy manual shifters. At 66 years old this is my first automatic shift. I don't care for the paddle shift but I really like the transmission. When I get on it always seems to find the correct gear based on how hard I punch it. I'm impressed! I think this is the first auto thread that I have read that has gone this far without at least one serious bashing! I do hope they keep making manual shift for those that enjoy them.

I went from a Porsche Cayman R with PDK to my current 2017 GS A8. Initial impressions were the PDK was a much quicker shifting transmission although it did not like creeping along in traffic and it would sometimes hold a gear for too long. At first the A8 felt slow changing gears and I did kind of miss the PDK. I have since acclimated to the A8 and find it to be much smoother than the PDK.

My first Vette was a slushbox A4 in an '87. It was a dog, but I kept it for over 10 years before I couldn't stand it any longer and traded for a C5 with M6. I swore then that I would never own another auto Corvette. Thirteen years (and two different manual C5'a) later, I finally realized my dream of buying a new Corvette. After much agonizing, soul searching, and research here on the forum and other places on the net, having never driven one, I decided to try the A8 mostly because of a declining shoulder condition. I am so glad I did! I can echo the comment above that the transmission always seems to find the right gear - none of the herky-jerky searching old style mechanically controlled autos did in the past. I also love the paddles and use mine mostly when in auto mode to downshift for corners so the car doesn't have to downshift on acceleration coming out of the corner. Then after an upshift or two with the paddle, hold it for a couple seconds and you're back in automatic mode.

I too hope GM will continue to offer the manual for those who think they can't live without it, unfortunately I think its days are numbered. I very seldom miss the manual in my old Vettes but would like the opportunity to try the M7 in a C7 some day if for nothing else the nostalgia.

The Jaguar F-Type uses the excellent ZF8 torque converter auto, and BMW recently dumped the DCT for the ZF8 in some models.

Totally agree - loved my 1979 4 speed - thing was stock crazy fast and with manual it was a blast and won a lot of my 1/4 miles due to my manual shifting skills

Now all set - to much traffic - could never go back but dam they are great fun
