Default Gas gauge

I had a gas gauge on the dash quit working so I took it to the dealer and it turned out to be a sensor in the tank. To change it the tank needs to be removed. To remove the tank requires removing the differential, sub frame, transmission exhaust and the rear body panel.
To make a long story short, 3, 500 bucks later and hopefully done today, I hope it is fixed.

Sorry to say, but you should have tried searching here first. Sometimes, treating the gasoline with Chevron Techron - can cure the problem.

Wow,,I hope it was covered under warranty,.

C-5s are notorious for gas gauge/sending unit failures, it can often be fixed using techron fuel additive. I've been curious whether to put a bottle of techron in, on occasion, in my C-7. I do it regular (twice a year) on my C-5.

Asking those who have an extended warranty. Would this be covered under an extended warranty?

Since transmitting/receiving devices are not covered I assume the answer is no, not covered.

Had a friend on FB corvette group happen twice. Curious if the miles to empty displayed in inst. cluster would work if sensor goes.

On my C6, with a B2B extended warranty, this repair was covered.

On my C5 I would occasionally have a gauge stuck on zero after getting a bad (too much sulphur) tank of gas. After filling up the tank again the problem would go away. As everyone else has said, Techron is also the cure for many of these problems.

Sorry to read about your issue and expense. I was curious if you drove your car regularly or not. There was a recommendation made about storing C7s over the winter that to have the gas tank at one quarter full or less for extended storage. The reason being that sulfur in the gas can contaminate the sending unit. The result is what you have experienced. The reason regular driving can prevent the issue is because of the constant sloshing of gas in the tank around the sending unit. There was one Chevy dealer that had seen this issue 3 times, and they were all C7s that had stored their car over the winter with a full tank of gas.
