Default Dealer took me for a ride

I was just charged $ 300+/- for the dealer to tell me because I had and "Aftermaket" item plugged into the fuse box,
they would not fix my ENGINE light "ON" problem. My email stated it was an emission problem after 6,800 miles. 2017 GS CE.
I had pulled the fuse # 42 I think, to alter the exhaust sound around 6,500 miles. Would this make an Engine light come on?
I also have a light in my grill plugged in the "Seat warming" fuse, they claim that because of these items I have to pay to
have them "Fix" my engine light. HELP NEEDED please.

Leave everything the way it came from the factory until after the warranty runs out.

Pulling fuse 42 should not make a CEL.It didn't on my '17.

However, the dealer can do a scan and tell it's pulled.I had a cruise glitch and the dealer told me it came up on the scan.

This is one of the problems with making changes to the electronics.
Dealers can almost always tell.

I suggest you try to put everything back to stock (including the fuse).
I don't see how you can avoid paying $$$ to your dealer at this point.

Put the fuse back, unplug your light. If the engine warning lamp is still on, take it in to get fixed.

Pulling that fuse did not set the CEL on my 14.

Concur with others, put the fuse back, disconnect the light, and see what happens.
Or blow the fuse, then reinstall it. Same as it not being there.

Since that dealer knows it was “Altered” worst case is you’ll have to go to another dealer.

OTOH, lots of people direct wire or jumper wire to power an accessory.
Can’t quite imagine how tapping seat heat circuit would affect CEL light, but ... electronics are have always been strange (I once had a car with the radio and the backup lights on the same circuit), but can be beast nowadays.

If in the computer for your car, it won't matter which dealer you take it to. I think you may well be screwed... sorry.

As robertbruce said above, anytime one mods the electrics/electronics it will jeopardize potential warranty resolutions. Perhaps, if any consolation, your account will benefit someone else down the road (no pun intended).

As long as you replaced the fuse #42 prior to taking your C7 to them how would they know the fuse didn't just 'blow' and you removed it to replace it?

Best to take all that stuff out before taking the car in for a known issue.

Get a bluedriver and see if you even need the dealer. Its a great tool and works on a wide range of vehicles with OBD port. Great investment and it allows you to read/troubleshoot and clear codes.

Pulling the NPP fuse, or jumping from another fuse will not throw a code, unless the jump is pulling more voltage than the circuit can handle... but the “seat warmer” fuse is unrelated to emissions, so irrelevant. As mentioned, get yourself a BlueDriver. It can read and clear codes. Well worth the $100 investment, works on most vehicles, and provides free updates...

I thought here in Florida, you are entitled to an estimate before they do any repairs. If you signed their work order under warranty, and GM won't pay - they should have stopped and called you before any charge. But maybe you signed something that said "up to" some dollar amount?

This happened with my Acura. My auto wipers stopped working and I brought it in under warranty. They said that my radar detector I installed was the cause and they wanted $900 to fix the wipers?!?!?! I told them to go F*CK themselves and I picked up the car and they charge me nothing since I did not authorize the repairs. The wipers worked after that and have been working ever since!

Thanks for the input. I *** umed that unrelated stuff like seat warmer fuse and muffler sound fuse would have NO impact on an Engine light. But I'm screwed now, I have only 2 dealers in 45 miles to choose from.
This one DePaula Chevy Albany, NY will not see me again, ever. toooo many problems from delivery , 1st service and this service. Real simple stuff, Change my oil, turn off engine light.
Think about this (1) item, I call to make an oil change appt. (17 GS CE 6,800 miles) I put the appt. out 10 days knowing the Vette "Guy" is the only one there to do it. I specifically spell out to happy chic on phone it is a VETTE.
"No problem"......I pull in and wola, need to make another appointment because they did not know it was a VETTE, a complete waist of a day. Then I have to waste another day for a F***ken oil change.
DePaula Chevy don't go there.....Sue me, it happened.

That's always been my way of doing things unless I was fully prepared for a worse case scenario of having to pay for things myself.

thats why you need to find an independent shop that knows Corvettes and will handle warranty claims.....I talked to my guy before we bought a GMEPP for my wifes 2012 to confirm he could handle any warranty issue...we are taking it to him Monday to get 3 issues addressed.....no drama

I'm originally from Albany/Colonie but now live NW of there. Most of my business I did with Dennoyer, but have not been there since 2003 so have no clue about them now, but in the past they did me well!

Try going to this place, he has done some rather interesting things and appears to know his ****. Outside of Amsterdam on RT 30!

Worked on a couple of my buddies Vettes and fixed some problems that baffled the dealers.

It is a small shop, and he is not open weekends.

That might not work, cause the first dealership puts in the computer his finding and codes, which they do, and then customers refused the repairs.
Taking it to another dealership will bring up your Vin, and see what other dealership found, and written up on the car, your screwed.

When I worked at service department, we use to get customers with problem, and after reading the history of another dealership we told them we can't warranty your problem, cause of what the other dealership wrote up for the same problem.
That's why others have posted, don't touch the car till warranty expired.

What codes were set ? Go find that out however it has to happen.
I have a feeling you just ran into a bunch of stupid lazy people. I also have a feeling that the check engine light has nothing to do with the extra stuff you installed. I would be getting to the bottom of this.
