Better sports car than the Grand Sport for less than $100K

[QUOTE=oregonsharkman;1597501336]For the drive I just described- Why would a Z06 be better? Faster for sure, but I was just enjoying my Corvette on a nice evening...Do you not enjoy your Stingray? When you walk out to your garage to you always wish it was a Z06? Or perhaps a Ferrari or Paganni or Bugatti?"Pagani"

Audi RS5?
I got my '16 Z51 in 2015. I almost certainly would have gotten the GS if it were available at the time.
I'm happy with the Stingray and have no desire to drive a GS. as it might just make me a little unhappy with my Stingray.
Only other car I cross shopped, and not very hard, was the Audi RS5.
I've seen a few on track and they seem competent but in my opinion, the Audi is such a perfect car in design and execution, it's actually boring. . And, there's no standard tranny, so that ended the debate for me.

I would also like to say "Thank You" to the OP for his post! After reading it I felt like I was in the passenger seat! I am the owner of " only" a 2016 Stingray and get the same kind of enjoyment evert time I drive it !

Bought my 2017 2LT GS for $65K brand new. Love the crap out of it. Yeah, every once in a while at an Xcelerate Vettes meet in H-Town, I get a little jelly hearing the Z06 exaust. But why is the GS on Car and Drivers 10 best and not the Z06?

Won't be a popular opinion on a Corvette board, but this is written in my will that leaves the following to my youngest daughter: 1967 Corvette Convertible & 2006 PCA Club Coupe 2 of 50.
If you can keep only one, keep the Porsche.
Notice the C7 isn't in the will because I don't have the same plan in mind for the the C7 as the other two--the 67 and the Porsche I'm keeping until they die or I do.

I figured that if I got a z06, the fun would be over much quicker on the street, going through gears than the GS. I like to hear the engine and get into the car a little bit, and much like when I ride liter sport bikes, you are in extralegal territory so quickly, you feel like the bike/car is always asking to go faster because of how fast they are, that you really never get to utilize them, anyway. of course, you can say that about a grand sport or stingray, but you get the idea. I also did not like to hear about the heat issues.

Yes, the Z06 has the better motor...that's it. This is one of the worst douchbaggery response I've seen on CF. SRJ, I usually learn something from you. This...is TMI about your character. I've seen some GSs exceed the price of the Z06 (it's Z-Zero-Six), yet both were less than 100k.

A lot of the hand-wringing that goes on here is such ridiculous Internet bullshit for a guy like me. I LOVE my C7, but the $66K or so I paid (with tax) was a stretch for me (it was SUCH a friggin WASTE of money really) but it's a dream come true, WAY more car than I ever had. MAYBE between now and when I go to the big Corvette Forum in the Sky I have ONE more high zoot sports car in my budget - maybe some future C8 or maybe a Porsche Cayman S or whatever. But I'm not as affluent as many here seem to be. Just grateful I even got to OWN such a phenomenal sports car. The performance is off the hinges, the refinement more than I ever expected in a Corvette.

I guess you are right - none of us that bought a GS could ever afford a Z06 like a wealthy Texan. In my case, I guess I could have put two less tanks of diesel fuel in my 52' Cabo (1,400 gallons per tank - about 450 miles worth of cruising) this season or last, to save up the $13,000 extra the Z06 costs over a comparable GS. The reality is even ZR1's are dirt cheap compared to boats. You would probably be the boat forum guy who bloviates that I cheeped out in powering my Cabo with twin 1,550 hp Caterpillar engines instead of spending the extra $150,000 for the 1,600 hp MAN's despite both engine packages having the same cruise speed and top speed, and the CAT's being more reliable, cheaper and easier to maintain, just because the MAN's are German and cost more.
I bought a GS because it does everything I want it to do on the street for the 1,500-2,000 miles per year I use it.

Unfortunately, it looks like title of this thread provoked responses from people who own or desire to own a C7 Z06 as well as some who maybe regretting their purchases on either side of the argument..
When i went shopping for a new C7 i started at the Z51 level. quickly turned my attention to the GS variant but having just been released there were no deals to be had..I almost bought a yellow 1LZ Z06 A8 with a couple of options for $67k. think about that for a minute.
in October of 2016 I ended up in a new 3LZ design package C7 Z06 for $77k.. msrp was $98k. .
it's tough to argue anyone would NEED the extra power of the LT4 in the street... but then again, isn't it hard to argue anyone "needs" the power of a C7 on the Street as well? if faster, more power, etc wasn't "better" (to have in reserve) we'd all be driving 150hp Corvettes... for the sake of sounding ridiculous, leave the it has more power therefore it's not as good as my car with less lol.. if you can't "learn" how to drive your hi-po car? park it, sell it, or get help.. first few WOT attempts in my car coming from a mid 11 second C6 was terrifying.. now? i find myself thinking like the OP "could use a bit more power in 3rd and 4th gear"
like everything else in today's day and age, the more we get used to something the more we want it improved...
PS. a ZR1 is better than the Z06 in every way except where the looks bother some more conservative people from what i' e read here. the difference? you can't get 20%or more of of one.so the bargain/benefit ratio vs a Z06 AT THIS TIME, is not there.... in the used market? 2 or 3 years i bet some 1ZR models will be very very tempting to perspective NEW Z06 shopper... i know it would have been for me...
OP, i agree, the C7's are the best in their price range and punch way higher than any corvette ever should. it's an amazing car.. i love all of them!

all things considered......
…...there are quite a few that would rival or even surpass a Vette that I could afford to buy but not be able to
afford to OWN.....nothing surpasses the Vette when you include maintenance, upgrading and replacing parts,
yee old "bang for the buck".....and greetings from a former Oregonian who lived and taught in places like Canby,
Silverton, St. Paul, Gresham, Sandy and Hood River.....

I have a 2018 2lz z06 auto that had an MSRP of $89,570 and I got it for $78k. Nothing in that price ranges competes with it. If I win the powerball would I get a Aventador SV? In a heartbeat. But as a 35 year old who had to get one car as his daily driver nothing else out there gives me the performance of a z06. And I got a 10 year/100k mile bumper 2 bumper zero deductible warranty for only $2950. They dont even offer that kind of a warranty on a Nissan GT-R or Porsche 911 Turbo S

Yeah!! A used Z06!! Torque of the Z06 makes it the most fun street fun car ever!! GS fanboys would realised that Z06 isnt about about HP, but TORQUE!!!
under the curve power of the Z06 is just freaking fun!! No need to break the law crazy to enjoy a Z06. Hell, you have to break the law more with a stingray/GS because they are torqueless compared to the Z06. Instant torque is felt ALL the time on the street!!
