I recently noticed a whining noise coming from my engine (2016 Stingray, 2LT, A8). Noise is easiest to hear when driven close so something and accelerating slightly. Happens with or without A/C on. I also can hear it in the garage while in park and accelerating slightly. I provided the below link. Hopefully, the link will work.
For what it is worth, I removed my tensioner and started up the car real quick with it off. No noise could be heard. I took the tensioner apart as far as I could and greased the bushings (where the bolts go through) and refilled the spring reservoir with oil. I put it all back together, and I still have the noise. It is not has bad though. I plan on going to the dealer on Monday to purchase a new belt tensioner and possibly a new belt. I have just about 20K on the car. I would like the dealer to do the work under warranty, but I just can't trust them right now. If the new tensioner doesn't fix it, I will bring it the dealer. I watched a video of ThatCuteGinger replacing the tensioner. She lists the same part number tensioner that I found on my car (p/n 12658273). She also replaces the two bolts and the belt. She lists the upper bolt torque at 43 lb/ft and the lower bolt torque at 16 lb/ft. Her video is about 2 years old. I noticed that this p/n tensioner is not sold in the GM online stores anymore. Looks like it was replaced by p/n 12668977. I have a few questions and hope my forum folks can help me out.
1. Just wondering why she replaced the bolts. Are they torque to yield?
2. Did the part number change?
3. If/since the part number changed (I'm guessing a new revision), are the torque values for the bolts the same?
Any help answering these questions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave
I have a whine that amplifies at certain RPMs (around 1200 then louder at between 2500 and 3000) only with the air conditioning on and I have been wondering if it might be the tensioner. Need to take the car in for the MRC update and will ask about that then. Car hasn't been to the dealer since the 500 mile oil change.
Can someone out there look up the torque specs for the upper and lower bolts for the tensioner and very that the upper is 43 ft/lbs and the lower is 16 ft/lbs. I would appreciate it, and thanks in advance.
