Hello Guys,
last night my spring leaf broke, and i discovered that the reason are my cutouts..
Even the cutouts were not pointing directly to the spring leaf, the hot exhaust gas has softened the resin of the composite spring leaf, causing it to broke in two..
i have been extremely lucky, it has happened on highway at 90 mph.. i took the very first exit, that for my luck was really near.. everything went fine
I ran cutouts on my C5 for several thousand miles with no issues. The were in a similar location as yours but I pointed the turndowns so they had minimal effect on the spring. Ultimately, I pulled the composite springs and shocks off and replaced them with a set of coilovers. If you insist on keeping your cutouts (and I would understand why) you may want to consider coilovers. I'm currently running a Corsa X and MagnaFlow Competition catback on my C7 so absolutely no need for cutouts.

Wow! I never would have considered the leaf springs on any exhaust work. It makes sense ... now. Sorry for your mishap. Great learning event, thanks!
Very very lucky as you know that could have been a real catastrophe. Thanks for sharing.

This is why I don't do substantive modifications. Essentially they mean that you become your own development engineer, with a lot fewer resources than the manufacturer devotes to testing and verification.
