A close one....
Hello Guys,
last night my spring leaf broke, and i discovered that the reason are my cutouts..
Even the cutouts were not pointing directly to the spring leaf, the hot exhaust gas has softened the resin of the composite spring leaf, causing it to broke in two..
i have been extremely lucky, it has happened on highway at 90 mph.. i took the very first exit, that for my luck was really near.. everything went fine

Lesson learned by you, and you live to see another day. Maybe this will help someone else.

I ran cutouts on my C5 for several thousand miles with no issues. The were in a similar location as yours but I pointed the turndowns so they had minimal effect on the spring. Ultimately, I pulled the composite springs and shocks off and replaced them with a set of coilovers. If you insist on keeping your cutouts (and I would understand why) you may want to consider coilovers. I'm currently running a Corsa X and MagnaFlow Competition catback on my C7 so absolutely no need for cutouts.

Yikes. Glad this didn't turn into a 90mph crash.

Wow! I never would have considered the leaf springs on any exhaust work. It makes sense ... now. Sorry for your mishap. Great learning event, thanks!

Certainly good information for others who have cut-outs. Glad that you safely made it off the highway.

Melting Slicks
This is why I don't do substantive modifications. Essentially they mean that you become your own development engineer, with a lot fewer resources than the manufacturer devotes to testing and verification.
Glad it worked out well.

Yikes! I would have never given it second thought that cutouts would melt the leaf spring!
So glad it ended safely for you.
