Default Navigation vs OnStar navigation

The menu on my 2015 c7 shows "nav" and the icon on the menu of a 2016 c7 my neighbor is considering buying says "onstar Nav"What is the difference in the "navigation" VS "onstar navigation" in the c7 Corvette? Is there a monthly charge for the onstar navigation?

You have on board nav, he doesn’t.

Onstar nav package is $35/month.

Yes, OnStar Nav is a charge item. Basically you call them up via OnStar, tell them were you want to go, and they'll download directions to your system. That's if you're too lazy to do it yourself on the normal Nav system. Now queue the "But Waze/Google is better" posts, but the above is a direct answer to your specific question.

Hold it....OnStar navigation is "destination" navigation, correct? It's not daily navigation as you drive around. And yes, there is a charge for OnStar.

there is just too many negatives to even begin . if you have used any nav system at all, you won't use ONSTAR but once , AS IT IS THAT BAD.

That's not true either. There are times where car nav, just won't give me what I need. Maybe I don't know the correct name of the place, or it doesn't like my voice commands, or I'm on the road and have to change destinations on the fly... Onstar is very helpful... (and no, I'm not talking value. So don't go there. This isn't that)

(and yes, Android Auto and Waze are WAAAAYYYYYYY better... but that's another topic)

With the five year free OnStar you can use the app remote link to send your own info to nav system. If the car your friend is thinking about buying has no nav system then he would be best off using his smart phone instead of OnStar.

In today’s smartphone why have onboard Nav. GM unlimited data plan is $20 a month. So easy to stream for vehicles equipped with Apple Play or Android system.

I bought my 'vette off the lot without nav, but with OnStar, thinking it was similar to the GM system, but as mentioned, it is a destination, not real time nav system that gives "turn by turn" instructions but no map, which I found to be cumbersome and all but useless.
With the apps available on smart phones, and the ability to display some on the Infotainment screen, they are a good answer, but after enjoying my nearly flawless Mustang Sync system, I prefer real time onboard navigation, so I bought and swapped the Nav HMI for the non-Nav unit. The real time map and most features are decent, but the voice command bimbo is brain dead and 50% useless for entering destinations...
