Get a RaggTopp Convertible Top Care Kit. Two products in the kit. A cleaner and conditioner. That's the brand name, it is easy to find online or most auto supply stores. And number two? It is convertible with an eye not an eh. Eh?
This is the actual kit you want - same as mentioned above, but you want this brush...its so soft yet gets all the trapped dirt out of the crevasses of your top... Made my 16 year C5 black top look brand new after the first use...
Another proponent of the RaggTopp kit. Before my current Vette, I owned two different 370z Roadsters w/ black cloth tops. The first of the two, I never put any protectant on the black top, and it really showed its age by the time I traded it. Protected the second one with the RaggTopp as soon as I brought it home, and the black top looked much less worn as time passed. The unprotected one the water always soaked right in during rain or washing, while the RaggTopp protected top, water would always bead up and run off like a freshly polished body panel.
Another trick I used to keep a black top looking lint free was to use a giant lint roller periodically to get the lint and dust off between washes. Cheap, and worked really well at that task:
I've never put anything on my tops except soap and water during regular car wash, and they've always looked great.
Lint rollers work great, especially for black tops, but I usually just wrap 2" or 3" blue painters tape around my hand to de-lint it.

That's all I've ever done to the tops on my Verts. However, mine stays in the garage when it's home. If it had to sit out I would think of using a good cleaner with UV protection.
I know there are a lot of opinions on this . . . so here's one more! I am on my third ragtop so far. Somewhere along the line I heard to avoid soap, and so I have just used water and microfiber. I have never treated one of my vert tops (if I need to, I will be going Raggtop). I will say I am lucky enough to have covered parking at home and work, so it has a pretty easy life . . .
