There was someone on CF that did that seems like 8-10 months ago, and was profoundly disappointed with what he found afterward. Suggested that we all just leave well-enough alone and keep the pain on the inner barrels.

I removed the paint from mine. They are chrome underneath the paint. Not as nice as the face of the wheel but in my opinion, they look a lot better than the ugly grey paint.

Are those OEM wheels? I ask because they look custom. I was thinking the OP of the original post 8-10 months ago had standard wheels, and wanted to remove the paint and polish the barrels --- but it didn't work out so well. Yours look good.

I painted mine gloss black. Sets off the chrome nicely. The paint somewhat smooths the surface so it is easier to clean and the black seems to hide the dirt.

how did you remove the paint without damaging the chrome underneath?

Did you paint over the grey or did you remove the paint and primer first, then the black?

I washed the wheel barrels with Dawn detergent and spray painted the barrels. I used a fair amount of tape to mask the wheels. Some over spray on the wheel surfaces but that was easily removed with acetone when the paint was relatively fresh.
