Android Auto with Google Maps.

I don't think I'll ever buy another car with nav again.

I've measured. Waze produces a lot more false positives than non-false positives. Why? Well cops are generally in cars with wheels and MOVING....

Plus by the time you report them you are already past them if they are not moving.

For planning a trip: Rand McNally
For estimating times and distances: Google Maps
For quick checks when nothing else is available: Google Maps
For navigating in the car: Factory Nav + HUD
For ticket avoidance: Waze, operated by my copilot (wife)

Is there any way to get Waze to display on the screen, or are we stuck with mounting our cell phones somewhere they are visible? I upgraded the head unit in my C5 to a nice Kenwood and it offered screen mirroring. Just wondering if the 2019's offer this capability.

It's the only one I've found that allows multiple destinations which is critical for planning a circuitous route of backroads and avoiding towns etc. Waze allows you to add only one.

I wonder if any of the apps discussed allow you to select for "avoid interstate highways" or "use scenic routes"?

Mapquest allows you to select avoid highways, toll roads, ferries, Unpaved roads, seasonally closed roads and border crossings.

This seems like a very handy feature for the kind of driving many of us do.

Thats it really. On a roadtrip right now in the Ozarks. Would really like an option in Google Maps to avoid interstate highways.

I suspect the demand is much greater than Google realizes.

That's what Android Auto will do for you. But the Waze displayed by Android Auto does not have all the features that plain Waze on your phone has.

Thanks for the response. I also run YaV1 for my Valentine One radar detector, so unless Android Auto picks it up (which is highly unlikely), it looks like screen mirroring or mounted cell phone are the only options.

Google Maps 1st and Waze for traffic info. If you ask Google about a site or location on your overall map and then select it, it just add's it with directions into your overall trip plan and adjusts time and distance on the fly. Love it.

Do you believe GM will actually issue a software update for Apple CarPlay for existing cars?
