Okay guys (and gals), here's the plan.
I think I'll go with the rectangular shape shown as #1 in the second set of images. But before I commit to spending $$$ on tooling, I will post pics of the final design here. PLEASE keep checking this thread and confirm your satisfaction with it, okay?
Also, I'll need to have 3d prototypes printed to confirm the design...
After that, I will also get a quote for doing the 'angled' design. If (and when) I can afford it, I will add it as well.
Thanks everyone. I do truly appreciate your participation...
Cheers,
Dave

#1
I prefer the rectangular style...Very clean simple design, has an OEM look, and doesn't distract from the unique cup lines....Design #1 appears to be more ergonomic in design and is easier to place fingers under it to pull outwards...
My issue with #2 is that is a bit oversized, the space between handle and cup will be shallower, and the leading edge repeats the same angle as the cup which takes away from the unique cup line....
Carbon Flash Metallic paint of course!

I prefer the look of #2 from post 60, as it profiles the rear door edge and the cup profile, but can see the potential issues with finger clearance, it being more prominent than #1 when door is open and potential for snagging clothing as was mentioned. I am ok with #1 with the carbon flash paint, it will complement the other like-painted pieces, if admiral blue is not an option.

I just gave more thought to the open door condition of the dog extending past the door edge, and that is a non-starter for me. I park next to my wife's car, and sometimes need to rest the door against her door to get into my car. No issue there--I don't bang it (the door)--but with the dog on there, it reduces the open area of the door that much more. Sorry to dis the product because it's genius, but just not for me. I'm out.
EDIT: Now rethinking again after realizing that the door handle is higher than the outward bulge of the door edge. Can we get a picture of the open door, say, at its widest, where the camera is perfectly vertical, so that we can see how far beyond the door edge the dog extends? I'm thinking the door edge may extend farther, even, due to the curve of the door edge

I like the simplicity of #3 but I agree with others the angle needs to match that of the door angle which this does not. Great idea as I too have to help many into the car the first few times. This should make that go away. Thanks so much for you ingenuity.

Well, that won't be clear until the final design is complete.
I can say the current standard handle does not extend outward further than the curvature of the door. Meaning you're more likely to hit the edge of your door long before the DD handle touches anything. I know because I drive my C7 with door dogs every day and occasionally have to park in tight spaces.

Dave

Guys, can I ask a favor? Here's renderings of some quick design ideas. Can I get your feed back? Feel free to add, subtract, combine, or change completely. THANKS!
If you want to Photoshop them, the files are here.

I agree that #1 in second set of pictures in Carbon Flash would be my first choice. I'm glad I waited to go this route (I already have your other two products). Thanks for asking for our input, smart move. Good luck with the product.

I think the product is a pretty cool idea, but the new design looks much better to me.

#3 in carbon flash. No need to get fancy with the design and create something that will specifically draw your eye to.
