Default Replace or repair dash pad?

I need some suggestions on how to replace the dash pad or getting it repaired? It was scratched but not deep to a cut. I have seen videos online of dash repair and it looks promising but I'm scared how it will hold up to the heat and the visual look of it after its repaired. I am very mechanically inclined and would rip the whole dash out just to replace this eye sore.. lol

I had a vendor called Dr. Vinyl repair the dash on an ‘84 Vette I had and it came out looking as though nothing had ever happened. It also lasted from the time I bought the car until I traded it in (around 5 years) and still looked great.

Check with your dealer and see who they use to repair interior issues and see what they can do. Worth a shot before going to the expense of buying parts and tearing the dash apart.

I would first take it to a good car upholstery repair shop and see what they say about repairing it and ask to see some of their work.

To replace that dash piece would be a nightmare. Here are instructions just to replace the passenger side trim pad.

You still need to keep going to replace the dash after that.

A pro will repair for almost nothing, and you'll never know it happened.

Shouldn't be over 75.00 to have it fixed by one of these places like he is telling you here.

I need to replace mine, because of a deployed air bag. What was your result?
Thanks, Jack

The dash is one piece. So to replace would mean everything above your knees comes out. A big job.

so, another guy used the service manual and did that to replace the dash pad with the air vents and took 8 hours. Another guy said he took apart the glove box and did the same job in two; without removing the center console. It appears it is a triangular piece only. Can I go into it from the glove box area? Can a leather guy just replace the ripped area? Can I replace the air bag from underneath? Do you have any pictures of the underside of the panel?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jack

Another vote for taking your car to an auto upholstery shop.

Your car appears to be a 3LT, meaning that your dash is covered in leather, not vinyl. I agree with what others have said here: Seek out a professional opinion. Good luck!

I agree. This is a case where you need actual expertise regarding your choices. Incidentally, if you end up having to pull out and replace the dash cover, you might consider avoiding the problematic 3LT pad and replacing with the unit from the lower level interior, which apparently has not had issues.

But in any case, look for advice from pros or from someone who actually has done the switch on his own.
