Two C7's Collide on the Dragon

On many, many occasions I've been part of a spontaneously formed group of three or four cars, that will drive between 95 and 105 heading north on 59. No one gets stupid, no one will be reckless, and if the lead car has to stomp on the brakes or do something else that effects the others, its always for a very good reason. So no one gets pissed, no one flips anyone off or tries to pass in an unsafe way. In fact, there is almost an acknowledgement that a quick lane change, brake check, or other abrupt maneuver done for good reason is a job well done. I've even gotten the thumbs up at 100 for something that would get me the bird at 70.

Tough day for those two C7 owners. Just hope no one was injured.

One or both was following proper road course procedures. For a right hand curve/apex, swing wide left to enter. Always hit the inside edge of the apex, if you're not on the curbing you're doing it wrong! Doesn't work very well if someone's running the course from the opposite direction from you (Like on a hwy).

Hope they had track insurance, your typical auto policy will not cover that

My son and I just did the Cherohala Loop starting at deals gap. The rain stopped him from taking his bike so he drove the vette. The average speed he did was 25mph even at that speed a few of the curves were so tight it would be easy to cross the center line. It was our first time.

Are there any facts, yet?
Still just a bunch of speculation, as far as I can see.

Good point, Lisa. Could be two unrelated pictures of wrecked corvettes. You never know if what you see on the internet is for real or not. I googled to see if I could find a story on this and didn't find anything - but that could mean two things - A. It didn't happen or more likely B. I didn't put the right stuff in my searches.

Some who purchase C7s probably shouldn't, especially if it's their first sportscar.
Reminds me of a friend some years ago who was buying like a 36' Bertram. His plan was to pilot it from Annapolis to St Augustine FL.
I asked if he had a Captain's license or know what he was doing? He said, "well how hard could it be, all I have to do is to head straight off-shore and hang a right".

Though I have yet to see it when driving the dragon (or the Cherahola) you also have to look out for animals, usually deer. In places where the rock walls won't let them get back into forest they will walk along the road. I've driven a couple different roads like that in PA where at certain times of the year the roadway is scattered with dead deer who cpuldn't find there way off the road.

Been following these comments & finally decided to look at crash info.http://dragonawareness.com. Very interesting, hosted by Blount County Sheriff Dept..In 2017 in the warm months, Apr-Oct, there were 87 wrecks/43 injuries/1388 tickets given out! In last 11 yrs. 29 fatalities, 28 were motorcycles. Good stuff there.

Sad. Two wrecked Corvettes and hopefully no major injuries. Like most drivers, I love the twisties, but my biggest fear is always the guy coming at me from the other direction on a blind turn.

I won't go back to the Dragon. The bicycle riders had just as much right to ride their bikes on the Dragon as I had to drive my Corvette, but they were true idiots to do so. Even with them being idiots, If I had hit them from the rear, it would have been 100% my fault. Not worth the risk.
