I stopped at a local service station today with my 14 Vert for a safety inspection sticker today. I Pulled up to the garage door at the inspection bay as a young tech was closing the garage door, he saw me and immediately stopped the garage door moving at about halfway down and came barreling out at me before I could shut the engine off. He was clearly fired up to see a Vette, nice kid, I live I a blue collar town, not a lot of Vette's around here. I showed him where the E brake release was and explained it was a stick, worried that he didn't know how to drive a stick, politely, no problem sir was his response, I felt foolish.. I've also been called sir a lot lately which I'm not happy about...anyway. He drove into the inspection bay as I made my way to the meager waiting area. It was then that I heard some ruckus in the inspection bay, there was 3 other young techs circling my car, pointing, debating horsepower, tire size, rotor sizes, gear ratios, transmissions, 1/4 mile times...etc, most if which I don't know quite honestly...Good to see a good bunch of kids working together with common interest with all the negative stuff that is going on today..one of the guys told me that someday he hopes to have a Vette like mine, has to be a stick though...which was refreshing...

All of this reminded me of back in the day, many moons ago, when I was a kid right out of high school working at Goodyear Tire and Service Center when a 84 Vette came in for tire service which I was able to help with, I think I just fetched the tires...but I remember being at awe with the style / technology and thinking someday I would have a Vette...

Kind of funny....

Millinneals. They were looking for where to plug in their iPhones so they can communicate without personal interaction.

"How many millinneals does it take to inspect a car???" : )

Hopefully the kid treated your car well too. Good to see the techs taking an interest in the Corvette.

Lots of propagation of the "only old farts drive Corvettes" stereotype in here.

I would be going back there for service and maintenance.
The very best techs usually start out with a genuine interest in performance cars.
Its what draws them into the profession, and its what motivates them to learn the details.
No one has to tell a person to go study the subject matter, when that person is already motivated by genuine interest and passion.

Nice story. I remember when i was a kid working at the IGA grocery store in Norman Ok, i used to get really excited when i would carry out groceries to someone that had a TA, IROC, GN, Monte SS, etc. (usually people didn't bring vettes to the grocery store). I took me a while but now i know what the look was in their eyes when i couldn't stop talking to them about their car as i loaded the groceries in it. I always said someday i would have one....

The look on the kid's face when he rolled out of the garage was priceless...which made me think of the early ( not old ) days...

I go there mainly for routine stuff, good shop, well run, good place for the kids to learn.
