C7 to be the last manual Corvette?

Yeah, I have a Ford SUV that has one. Totally opened my mind that I don't care for boring automatics. That's why we have a Ford Fiesta commuter vehicle with a stick shift. Not fast, but a more immersive driving experience.
I don't care what you say to me, I believe sports cars should have a manual transmission. I will not own a sports car without one. You of course are free to drive whatever you want.

I was always a manual guy all my corvettes were manuals.. My first auto was an a6 In the gen 2 CT’S V which was just terrible.... my second auto was the zf8 in my last car the Dodge Charger Hellcat. I was very impressed with that transmission until my latest car a 2016 M3... now that I own an f80 m3 with the DCT I could never go back to a standard automatic.... if the next gen corvette comes with a dct it might take some time for the manual guys to come around but the car and driver both will benifit. When a DCT is done right it gives the car incredible personality and it’s a ton of fun to drive.

Agreed. The DCTs I've driven are impressive. Most recently a 17 911 GTS. Interestingly BMW (e.g. M5) and others are going back to autos. They are becoming just as fast and precise with less cost and complexity.

I guess we will have to see what the DCT is going to cost and how reliable it is. No sense complaining about it before we know. Being mass produced at corvette numbers, it may be quite reasonable. I guess time will tell.
A DCT uses clutches so that you get a faster speed shift, so yes, you are right, its not a clutch in the same sense as a manual clutch, but the thing is, these systems shift as fast and as strong as you want and no weird lag or hesitation that you get for other systems so that shift and instant connection feel that you love in a manual kind of translates into the driving experience the same way. You don't row gears and run the clutch because you like moving extra levers and moving your arms, you like to feel like you are in total control, and are connected to the machine. That is what a good DCT does for you. Yes, it's not going to be the old school shift experience because that's slow, but you get what I'm saying.
I'm not trying to win anyone over to the DCT camp, I would love to keep my manual c7, but I think the DCT is not going to be the next best thing without going "full grandpa".

I don't know why you guys pine for a manual trans. The only reasons manual trans existed in the first place is because of the natural progression of technology. Manual transmissions were the state of the art when cars were first being sold over a 100 years ago. The automatic trans came out in the late 30s, 40s. So the technology transition began from manual to auto. A lot of us mature guys over 60 grew up with manuals because we lived through the transition. There were a lot of cars still around with manuals. A lot of us hot rodded these cars when we were young so we grew an attachment to the manual trans. I get where some don't want to give up that feeling and the manual brings you back in the time of our youth and you get to be more engaged with the car. For me, I don't miss the manual. I love the auto. Especially the A8 in the Vette. With manual mode you can paddle shift. This is just evolution of technology. In the case of transmissions the trend is toward making the driver driving experience more comfortable and relaxing as well as providing more driving options like the A8 provides (M w/paddle shift or D mode). I am all for it. I live in the Los Angeles area and having a manual is hell on the freeways. The new conventional 10 spd autos and DCTs are the new state of the art. They provide better shifting, gas mileage and safety. Our kids have never driven a manual for the majority of us. You know what that means. I have to agree with Tadge, the manuals days are numbered.
I don't know why you pine for an automatic. oh yea... Paddle shifting is in no way invigorating....nor is it close to manual shifting...

LOL. I am not pining about an automatic. I have no skin in the game as to whether the Corvette comes with a manual trans or not. With that said I am sure Chevrolet will offer a manual for the C8 if 20% of sales is a manual for the Corvette. Too big a market to risk giving away to other manufacturers.
