I would agree if you only want the transparent top. You can find mint used ones for $1,100 to $1,200. That is what I did. I will turn around and sell it when I get my next car and probably get hit with $300 or so depreciation in a few years.

Buy the car, it comes with the solid top. The $1k top swaps that out.
If you get the $1k transparant top option, it actually costs you $3k. You give up the $2k solid top and pay an extra $1k.
You could even pay the $2k for the dual package, sell the solid top, and that would be cheaper than just buying the $1k transparent top option. The transparant top option at $1k is a terrible deal. Even if you value the solid top at $1k, which replacement cost is way higher than that, its still a terrible deal.

I understand completely and stand by my assertion that if you order the transparent top when you order the car, it is cheaper than buying one after the fact.
Now, if you want more than the transparent top, that's another story as you rightly point out
Yeah, well, all that... or just consider keeping an eye out at the parts for sale/wanted section here.
Clear tops often come up for sale and if you watch for a while you'll find what you want. Many of us have, myself included. The biggest issue I found was waiting for someone with a mint top who would deal with the hassles of crating and shipping. But, in a while one showed up. If you live in a more populated area, that isn't as big a deal, though. Prices are almost always better than buying new to varying degrees. All the best.
One dealer quoted 2100 and another quoted 3100. Trunk monkey sounds like the best, but with cold weather coming on, may wait and see. Thanks , I will keep my eyes open.
Hello Gstodd, I have one, perfect condition as it was on the car maybe twice since taking delivery in sept 2017, I consider selling it because I have an Admiral blue GS with white center stripe and it kind of look funny with the transparent top...

Holy crap! That's some serious markup. Thankfully, mine came with both tops because I'd be in the same boat.
Trunk Monkey right now is at 1725 with shipping. Others have a lower price but shipping will bring it over that price. Usually on holidays some vendors offer discounts usually 10% off.
The part number is 84355035.
It is usually cheaper to buy the panel separately if you want dual roofs than order the option from the factory.
Try shopchevyparts.com, they are selling new at 1575 even, plus freight ... but if it’s your first time buying from them, they will give you an additional 5% with discount code new2018... I think that’s right. Should land you around 1600-1650 net. Depending on where you ship to.
just FYI.. I am not affiliated, been doing some shopping myself. Good luck OP.
