Hi all. It looks like a rock or something knocked a chip in the lens of one of my factory front cameras. It makes the camera very blurry and difficult to use.
This is on a 2016 Stingray. Has anyone had any luck just replacing the lens, or is a replacement camera the only way to go?
Cars are more and more plug and play; replacing parts rather than repairing them, especially electronics; I suspect the camera
is one piece and economically viable to replace; besides, if the rock was enough to damage the lens, how about damage to
the camera itself?
The camera still works, but the image is blurry. It was wet out, so at first I thought it just had some water on it. It is pretty random that it would take an impact, but it sure does have a chunk missing out of the lens cover. I guess I should be glad that it was just the camera and not the paint! Whatever hit it had a good bit of energy so it would have definitely done some paint damage.
Looks like the camera is about $130 or so to replace.
If you have the stock Stingray grill w/ cameras, you might find one for sale in the parts for sale section. Many owners will change there stock grill to update to a Zo6 grill.
When looking at mine on the lot. My wife spotted the blurry camera and we noticed the lens had a small chip on corner of lens. They had to order it in. Front fascia has to come off and taken out from back side of the grill.
Thanks for all the replies folks. I'm going to look for some clear resin and try building it up with that and then polishing. Like several of you said, not much to lose there.
If anyone knows of a product that they would recommend, feel free to post it up. Otherwise I'll hit up Amazon and pick something out.
Looks like you have to take the whole front end apart even to change the camera out, so that means it's probably time to upgrade my stock grille to the Z06 design.....LOL!

That is correct. I had a bird strike that broke out my grill and it required to remove the bumper cover which took a couple of hours.
