I’ve been searching for threads about the A8 slipping because my 2018 GS has developed a fairly consistent slip when up shifting into third at WOT. Either my searching skills are lacking or most of the “shift fare” issues reported here have been about cold fluid and the first shift into second or something along those lines. So not really applicable to my situation.
I’m talking about when everything is warmed up and I’m paddle-shifting into third near redline at wide open throttle. There’s pretty much no way in hell this is normal, acceptable, and going away on its own with the “learning capabilities” of the TCU right?
GMs A8 is not the best shifting tranny. Your dealer may well tell you it's normal. Compared to the ZF in my BMW the GM A8 has sloppy up and downshifts. I've learned to accept it. The dealer can relearn your tranny following a TSB but I'm not sure it applies to 2018 cars. Good luck.

IMHO the 8 speed is just a smidgen better than my C6 6 speed. And that ain't saying much. A re-learn may help. Good luck.
FYI: I gotta say that Ford's 10 speed is light years ahead of GM's 6 speed. The 10 spd in my wife's '18 Mustang GT feels close to a DCT when you put it in sport mode. No slips, no flares. If only GM would pay attention.
I had a quite obvious 6-7 shift flare. Two attempts to relearn shifts did absolutely nothing. Finally got dealer to check with GM and together they finally (correctly) diagnosed the problem as sticking valve body. Once replaced, shifts were flawless.
