Default I laughed when my neighbor told me my car was loud

I ran into him at a local restaurant where he saw my CRY ‘17 Z M7 I got two months ago parked in front. He wasn’t exactly complaining but remarked that he and some neighbors know me as the “Red Baron” because they can hear me every time I drive by. He then introduced me to this lovely woman at the bar as the Red Baron of our hood.

Mind you, the environment I live in is a quiet serene neighborhood built on a peninsula next to a wildlife preserve with a quarter of people owning Tesla’s, a half of people SUVs. There’s one Ferrari F430, a Lambo Diablo, one 5th gen Viper, a Cayman GTS, and one new NSX I’ve seen. Two C2 Vettes. And one GT350. There’s a single road leading in and out of the peninsula for a mile with lots of stop signs. So my Z is periodically launching and going between 1st and third gear. I run on Eco with the Track exhaust on, stock exhaust.

Anecdotally, had a ‘17 GS A8 for over a year b4 this and never got a remark. I love the exhilarating sound when I first turn on the engine. Another thing that I love abt my Z. These people need waking up ha!

A stupid Harley? Worthless sound? Both the Vette and Harley are music to my ears and equally as exhilerating. You must be a presumtuous Vette owner, the one who assumes HD riders are all bad folks? Ignorant!

I've got a GT350R. And not one complaint about that 350? Weird. Unless the dude don't drive it. The GT350 in sport exhaust mode is pretty loud. The R even louder. Flaps are open on cold start for both too.

i used to run on Sport all the time but now I run Eco routinely on the highway and streets, inspired by a post Bill Dearborn wrote once abt being good with M7 and having lived with the atrocious 11mpg gas mileage of a ‘10 Continental GT SS (still a blast 600hp turbo V12).

Too funny! Loud exhaust switch to ECO the one setting that doesn't even belong on the Corvette.
Eco is not good on the engine long term! Too funny my Z with 800 plus hp gets 24 hwy and 19.5 all around never have used ECO!

Why is ECO bad for the engine? I only use it on highway trips, and the rest is a mix between tour and sport. I do know that early versions of cylinder deactivation was alleged to cause early oil consumption, but I would like to think that has been engineered out. One thing I really love about the Vette is the split personality it has. Good mileage when you need it and tons of fun when you want it.

yeah pls tell what the evidence for AFM badness is for M7.

After watching it for for a day, I’m not going V4 very long- maybe in 4th and 5th on the highway.

One of my friends jokes that I should have gotten a deep discount on my '17 GS because it did't come with any mufflers (I drive in Sport a lot).

well that wasn’t the intention.

But I refuse to not enjoy my Vette by running stealth exhaust. And I don’t run even close to WOT in the hood.

Plus, some of these prissy Silicon Valley types need a wake up call. The head of my HOA is cool as he has one of the C2 Vettes.

My neighbor is a firm believer in idling his Harley for 5 minutes before taking off.,,
Fortunately, I get up just before he fires it up..and he does not rev it, just lets it sit
My GF, on the other hand, is very agitated, as it wakes her up.

Your A8's exhaust sound would have been quieter when running up stop sign to stop sign. Not the same as your M7 running up through 3rd. Way different.

I'm surprised that the mpg, difference is all that sizable to run in ECO/V4, mode? Are you sure it's that great in city. stop and go driving? Not everything Bill Dearborn writes is accurate, nor defendable. He rarely can support his opinions with hard stats/data.

I have reached an accommodation with my neighbors about my car. I start it in the mornings with the garage door closed and let it lose that bark and settle down in idle before I open the door. That has kept peace in the neighborhood.

Choked , air cooled engines should be warmed up prior to riding.

Aren’t you kind of defeating the purpose of having a Z by running it routinely in Eco to save a few cents on gas?

That's what I wonder about too. ^^^^ Spending up toward $100K, on a two seater car, then spend all that time miserable trying to gain 1 mpg - a whopping .25 cent bonus......
