Having a spare key hidden outside the car can come in handy with the C7 at times. When I had my 2015 I was fueling after a workout at the gym and left my bag in the car that contained my fob and phone. In every other case the car would not lock because the fob was inside, but it did this time. With the phone also locked in the app was useless, but I have the key for my second fob hidden outside the car and i was able to enter the car that way. Thinking the phone might be interfering with the fob i relocated the fob to the console lid and closed the door for a test. I was locked out again, so I went home and checked the fob battery which measured 3.05V. A new battery was 3.30V and I had no further trouble for the next month at which time i traded that car in for my current 2017. The fobs are apparently sensitive to battery voltage, as has been suggested in other thread by owners with similar stories.

On the MyChevrolet menu page mine shows "Remote Commands" and "Key Fob" at the top that allows you to lock/unlock and sound/stop the horn That page also shows other features like Wifi Hotspot, Navigation, etc. if your OnStar subscription has expired like mine has most of the features are not available, but the Key Fob function is available for five years after the car is purchased new. If you don't see it I would call OnStar and inquire, as it is a useful feature that can get you out of a spot at times.

This happened to me in my C4 Collector's Edition. Getting gas, I forgot that I had placed my keys on the center console when I got out. As I was putting gas, the doors locked and I didn't have a spare any where around. I figured it just wasn't sensing the fob and I rocked the car back and forth a couple of times and the doors unlocked. Lucky me.

Ah, OK, that's why... I haven't added an Onstar subscription yet. My car was used when I bought it and we never used it on our 2016 Impala, so I just haven't bothered with it yet.

I occasionally have left the C7 key fob in the steering column slot upon arriving home in my garage. The car exhibits 3 short horn blasts upon door closing, to alert me to the fact that the fob is in the inside cabin. Never been locked out. Some Christines out there? ?

Might be a good idea to get a 3rd key fob, place it in the non radio wave pouch, then place the metal key part in a hide-a-key container, and locate it somewhere on the underside of the car for easy access for just such an event.

App says it only works with 2015 newer GM vehicles so I can’t use it which is a bummer.

On a list of things I turned off was passive locking and delayed exit lights. When cleaning the car it kept locking itself which got me worried. Seems like your flirting with disaster with this option. Not a fan of having lights that stay on after I leave the car either. I just keep looking back waiting for them to turn off.

Consider it a "live & learn" experience and go on.

I love this feature as it lights my way to the door. But there've been a couple times when I thought, 'are the lights ever going to go out.'

Much depends on your settings. Do you have fob alert activated? Do you have auto lock activated? I've asked you a few direct questions lately that you have not answered.

There are quite a few instances that a fob may be locked inside.

If there are two fobs and one leaves, the car will lock (if auto lock is selected). Any source of interference may affect this as well. Phones, fluorescent lights, magnets, security systems, etc...

If the car doesn't see the fob (for whatever reason), the car will lock (if auto lock is selected). Usually this is because your fob is outside your "map". Every Corvette has one. It would be worth your time to find out where your car will and will not recognize your fob. Keep in mind, that as both your car battery and your fob battery age, this "map" will shrink.

If you don't have auto lock enabled, and use the fob to lock the car as you exit, then yes, you will never be locked out, but it is really a shame to not use the current tech to never have to take your fob out of your pocket or purse. Passive use is one of the best things I like, and has been so for some time (since '05).

I had this happen to my 2014 Stingray. The sensors in back of the drivers had to be changed as they were over sensitive. Just an FYI

Every Corvette I've owned, I've had a hidden key outside the car. With some imagination and thought, not even the tech who works on the car has been able to find the key, but it can be accessed without tools.
And because I've got the hidden key, I've never needed it.
