Default Overheating issues

I am having an issue on my 2014. About a month ago, I was in stop and go traffic when my engine began overheating. I pulled off the freeway and opened the hood and noticed the cooling fan was not running. I turned the car off and restarted and the fan came on and the engine temps dropped to normal.

This past weekend I took a 350 mile trip. The car ran great until I exited the freeway and the temps immediately started climbing. I opened the hood and the fan wasn't running. I restarted the car and the fan came on and the temps dropped to normal. On the return trip, same thing happened again.

I took the car to the dealer and they could not find any issues with the fan or sensors. They found no codes stored. They did find a minor leak at the water pump which they are replacing.

I'm losing trust in this vehicle.

What temperature are you considering as "overheating"? It could be it simply hasn't reached the set temperature it needs to be to turn on the fan. When you shut it off there is no water flow so the temperature is going to rise rapidly and it appears that when you re-start it the temperature is where it needs to be.

it's the fan, its goes to sleep and stops working ... many have failed and replacing the fan fixes the problem.. I have an extended warranty and had it replaced... The funniest part of it is the "stock" fan is over 500 dollars at the dealer and the upgraded Z06 fan made just for our cars is 329...

how I got it replaced at the dealer...

go in to the service advisor and make a future appointment and have the service manager and tech present at that specific time... explain that they will have 3 to 5 minutes before the engine overheats and you have to shut it off and restart because the fan will fail...

when making the future appointment try to make it when you have to drive over 50 miles without stopping more than 5 minutes (no traffic jams) if you cant its fine but you will still have to drive 50 miles before the appointment time... it may work with less miles but I know it works at 50 miles....

drive up to the appointment, (I called 10 minutes out) stop the car with everyone there and start cell phone video recording inside the car getting all gages running normal.. get out and open the hood, record the fan not working... now keep recording and wait till it starts to overheat switching between the fan and the gages... i turned my car off at 250 degrees and restarted and the fan instantly started and cooled the car down...

this will only work if the service manager agrees the fan should work and turn on/working at 220 degrees and if it does not it is bad.... mine agreed and it was replaced... they gave both fan prices and part numbers to the extended warranty person and they picked the 329 upgraded fan They had to order the fan and it took 2 weeks to receive it but I had no issues with that as I still was able to drive the car..

you could just buy the fan and replace it yourself but I wanted them to replace it...

When coolant starts overflowing and the fan isn't running, that's a clue. The analog gauge always stays at 220 once the engine is up to normal. In my case that gauge is rising rapidly toward 260, which is red line.

I do suspect the fan and I drove it quite awhile before taking it in but the fan was functioning. That's the problem, it doesn't always happen. Two days before my appointment I took a 150 mile trip and it worked perfectly.

They won't authorize a fan replacement unless they can prove that's the problem. I may just end up paying it out of pocket for the peace of mind.

wow, so mine would do it every time I drove over 50 miles and stayed above 65 MPH... I said the same thing, if they did not replace it I was going to buy the Z06 fan, I would rather not worry about the engine overheating and having to replace it...

How difficult is the fan swap?
Does it use the same plug as the OEM?
Will the Z06 fan work on a 2014 base since the Z06 was not out yet at that time?

TIA

I had a very similar issue like yours, after dealer replaced water pump and engine's electrical fan under warranty, overheating issue gone. Also had the slight water pump leakage and fan stopped working.

the fan below is specifically made to replace our 2014 fans... the question becomes... did they make it available because they knew/know the fans fail or was it being nice and upgrading a part??? I know the "new" fan is a different part # from the original...

It says 2014+ Stingray and 2014 Z51 so it sounds like the 2015 and newer Z51 had an upgrade fan to begin with but all the Stingrays from 2014 on had the same fan.
