C7 prices a year from now
I turn 40 next October and wanted to get everyone's thoughts on how much the used C7s will cost around this time next year *if* the new C8s come out. Looking to pick up a C7 for my birthday. I would think some folks would sell their C7s to get the C8. Any ideas? I'm seeing C7s start to breach into the high 30k area.

I'd imagine that they will fall a little more regardless of the presence of a C8 (just due to age), some more than others. The base level Stingrays that are going for upper 30's will likely hit mid 30's, but not much less by next Oct. Again, total speculation because there are MANY factors that matter (car type, trim level, transmission, etc). It's all about demand.

If the C8 prices are starting in the expected $90k-$100k range, used C7 prices (Stingray, GS, Z06) won't take much of a hit. I would expect the biggest value hit will be to the ZR1, since it's $100,000+ and a ME C8 will be right in that same price range.
We saw a similar phenomenon when the C7's came out. The C7's were selling at way over list, making the C6 very attractive and thus C6 prices were buoyed up. It was a couple years before C7 prices stabilized and started selling for a discount, and then the C6 prices suffered.
The market for $100,000 sports cars is pretty small. There are still a lot of opinions that say the C8 won't be mid-engined at all, and will continue the more affordable front engined platform, while the mid-engine car will be an entirely different high-end "halo" car, replacing only the ZR1. If that is the case, I'd expect the MidEngine car to sit in the same price slot as the ZR1 -- $120,000.

Thanks for the compliment sir. I'm aiming for a Z51, A8, 1LT or 2LT, mag ride. White, black, or blue exterior. Dark interior would be nice.

I bought a 2014 Laguna Blue Z51 2LT (manual though) last year for $41k, I'd think that for a reasonable low mileage car (under 30k) you should be able to be in the upper 30's by then IF the market continues on its path...

Sold my 2014 Laguna Blue Z51 M7 with NPP, transparent top, red calipers for $40K 3 months ago (with 52K on the clock) and it had lots of extras, including an Xpel Ultimate condom

I put my 2015 C7 with 60K up for sale a couple of months ago for $35K. I got a bunch of internet tire kickers. No one ever showed up with money. It was just exhausting dealing with the idiots.
I plan on selling it when the warranty expires next October for for around $30K. It will have around 80K miles then.
It will probably go to CarMax. That way I don't have to deal with ignorant people.

for the original poster Id suggest annual depreciation is around 3grand with an average of 10k miles per year at this point of the c7 run.
good luck shopping. Just make sure you get the color, transmission and sport options you decide fits your desires when buying. Try not to compromise too much as you ll always wonder what if...
first vette? I suggest getting the rev matching manual 7 speed...todays fuel injection system and anti roll back make driving a manual way too easy and you cant mess it up even if you tried.

I wanted a C7 so badly that I ordered a new one because I couldn't wait any longer for the used prices to drop in my area (and even almost 12 months later prices really aren't that much different on the used car market here believe it or not)

Depends on the pricing of the C8 and whether there will be a 2020 C7. If it is the end of the road for the C7 and the C8 is priced too high for its intended market the price of used C7's may not see much of a price drop at all.

It's all about supply and demand, right? If the C8 MSRP is in the same ballpark as the C&, the C7 will take a pretty good hit unless dealers sell the C8 for OVER MSRP. On the supply side, if the C8 does not have available a manual transmission and or rag top those models should take less of a hit.

Last month I bought a 2014 Stingray C7, 3LT with 21K miles, Laguna blue, HD trans cooling, AFE intake, performance exhaust and 2 tops for 41K. My first Corvette at 69 years old and love it.

Wanted to bring this thread back up today since the C8 reveal happens later today. I'm going to really keep my eyes peeled now and see if these C7s get cheaper. If the C8 looks to be a performance monster, do you think that will help drop the price of the C7s?

All these posts about how much the C7 prices will drop in the next year. What we should be asking is how much will the C8’s drop after the first year? All the guys running to their dealers and paying msrp or higher for basically a prototype C8 are probably going to take a huge hit once production catches up to demand. That and the fact that after a couple years of improvements and possibly a GS and Z06 version the first run of C8’s may be undesirable.
